Pancho in Mexico

I have a friend that travels to Mexico several times a year. Arduous cowboy stuff. He has a young friend that we put a used guitar together for. We would like to send a copy of Pancho and Lefty for him to learn. I’ve failed to make the Google translator function work. Just need chords and lyrics. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Did you mean a Spanish version of Pancho and Lefty?

This also might help.

You do know that Pancho left for Ohio, don't you?

BradHall 07-31-2021 02:28 PM

I appreciate all the replies offering help. Basic internet and devices we take for granted are not readily accessible to the young Mexican cowboy. I’m still hoping to find a basic chords and lyrics sheet in Spanish that shows the chords over the appropriate words in the verse. Something I can print a couple of hard copies and pass along. I neither speak or read Spanish so I’m not much help.

That was Lefty. Somewhere in Cleveland I believe. ;)

Is your guitar tuned down or in standard (without the capo)?

I've been a lurker. This is my first post. The translation above is pretty good. I saw Townes sing this and a few others at the Backroom somewhere around '78. He was playing with Jerry Jeff. I left Austin in '85. Been living in ole Mex since 89.

It might be a bit difficult in that you can't just exchange the words from English to Spanish and have it come out. You would have to do an interpretation which would likely involve changing entire phrases. There might be one out there, but I don't think anyone is just going to do it on the fly.

Wow! To both experiences in 78 and 89!

RomanS nailed it in post #2 above.
It’s a 4 chord song. (I joke it’s a 3 and a half chord song.)
Do a net search for: Pancho and Lefty chords
You’ll get a couple different keys to try. I like it in D.

Thanks to this thread I learned the story of Pancho Villa’s supposed last words.

Cheers, _RP

thanks....I was fortunate to live in Austin for a decade when the music scene was in high gear. I've got alot of great stories...but my best was the night at Rome Inn. It was Blue Monday....and Willy was playing with his band...an unusual occurance at Rome Inn. Usually it was Jimmie Vaughn or Stevie Ray. I grew up with Willy's harmonica player and was sitting at their table while they were on break. Stevie Ray played the break. It was a sizzling performance. He was untouched in those days. I probably saw him play 50 times, many times for free, or a buck cover. But that night he ripped the heart from the floor. It was a short set and when he finished ....Willy stood up to take the floor....and he was booed off stage. I felt sad for the man. It was obvious he was no match for Stevie Ray, but he isn't a bad guitarist in his own right. But he was no Stevie Ray Vaughn. Those days in Austin were legendary. I've got dozens of stories....of Jerry Jeff Walker, Joe Ely with Jesse Taylor, Omar and the Howlers, Marcia Ball etc etc. But the best night I ever heard was Roky Erickson at Raul's singing "Living in the Kremlin with a Two-Headed Dog" ....astounding.
