New Album: The Isolation Waltz

Hi Folks, I hope its ok if i shamelessly plug my new album here, "The Isolation Waltz". You can check it out on now Bandcamp, and shortly on iTunes, Spotify, and the other usual digital services.

The Isolation Waltz centers around celtic tunes arranged for solo guitar, similar to my first album. I also included a few Scandinavian pieces, a couple originals, and even a clawhammer banjo track.

I recorded the album during 2020 here in my small home studio. I used my pair of Gefell M300 mics, an RME Babyface Pro interface, into Logic Pro on the Mac. I did all the recording and editing myself, then shipped the tracks to AGF's own Doug Young for mixing/mastering.

I am really happy with the sound and how everything turned out. I used acrylic nails and then later on Alaska picks, and I think that really helped my tone. Plus my guitar has had 10 years since my previous album to get played in. :)

Time to start thinking about album #3.

Very nice playing, pieces and sound.

However the full length of all the songs can be listened to on the website. You should limit it to shorter clips of each song.

Thanks Rick, I realized right after posting that the Bandcamp player would not embed here on the forum. My album cover above links to the Bandcamp page.

Anton,
Had time to listen more thoroughly. Really consistently nice work. Congrats.

Thanks Rick, that means alot! And thanks for the heads up on the limitless streaming. If folks are going to do that they should probably do it on Spotify so I get .001 cents per play at least. :D

Bandcamp doesn't support snippets but I set it so the listener has to pay after a handful of listens.

Oh wow, the samples I played sounded wonderful. I'll download for sure when it hits iTunes.

Congrats on a fine collection of music.

Beautiful work, Anton! Much success to you :)

It’s about time Anton!!
I’m looking forward to checking it out!

Thanks! Ill update this thread when its on iTunes, etc. The tracks are currently in the process at CD Baby, then they distribute everything to all the online channels.

I'm glad to know it sounds good to others. I was a bit nervous initially, my home studio is basically a spare bedroom with some minimal acoustic treatment. I think my tone has definitely improved from my first cd, which I recorded in Doug Young's pro level studio. He has top notch gear, so I don't think gear was the issue. I'm playing with acrylic nails or Alaska picks on this cd, so I think that helped the tone. Plus my guitar has had 10 years to get broken in.

Just listened to Haddock and Chips - Wind that Shakes the Barley. Fantastic! Is Haddock and Chips one of your originals? Will have to hear the rest and “get the album”. Thanks for posting.

Jeff

Very beautiful music, Anton. A wonderful accomplishment to do all this in a home studio.

A couple of technical questions:
In what configuration did you mic the guitar and the banjo?
Did you acoustically treat the room you recorded in?
Any other information about the room?

Thanks.

anton 02-28-2021 08:00 PM

Thanks folks! Jeff, Haddock and Chips was composed by Eliza Carthy, of the Waterson/Carthy family. My originals on the album on The Isolation Waltz and Breitenbush.

Karen, as far as the technical stuff, how about I post that in the Recording forum? We would probably get more of a discussion going than here in the Events and New Releases section.

anton 02-28-2021 09:22 PM

Karen, I posted a longer description about the technical stuff related to my album in the Recording forum, if you want to check it out.

Feel free to email at [email protected] if you have specific questions as well. Happy to try and help
