I need a round neck, biscuit-cone resonator for less than $500
This Gretsch G9240 Alligator looks good:
https://www.musiciansfriend.com/folk...sonator-guitar I like to play R.L. Burnside and John Lee Hooker tunes. Due to an injury to my left hand, I cannot use a slide. What resonators do you suggest? Thanks in advance! |
For less than $500, your choices are limited, but I would choose that Gretsch over any Regal, Recording King, Rogue, or Johnson. If you want a raunchy, gut-bucket blues tone, look into the Honey Dipper model.

You cannot use a slide? Then how do you finger the chords???? As for those Gretschs, if you want gutbucket go with one of the metal ones as the wood ones sound a bit softer/prettier.

I have a Gretchen Boxcar. You can’t beat it for the price. Great quality. They are not as sweet as a GoldTone Beard... but they cost 1/3.
Pity...I rarely play mine. I’d sell it but it’s wouldn’t fetch enough to justify the shipping Anyways... great guitar on the cheap. |
+1 on Gretsch Boxcar. Great little bargain reso.
|
For your budget, Gretsch!!

Gretsch Alligator is biscuit bridge, the Boxcar and Bobtail are spider bridge models.
I have the Boxcar and it is a great little reso. Look up Toby Walker playing one on Youtube. |
