I agree with Howard and think the sound of the guitar is perfect for his voice. Also, in interviews some of his favorite music is old blues and he loves that sound so fret buzz makes sense in light of that.

As to being Canadian, I do not see how that has any bearing on what type of music you should or should not sing?

Found the Canadian lol

I am actually from Michigan...so only half Canadian. lol

And, I am originally from Northwest Indiana which is just south of Michigan. Shockingly, some of my all-time favorite singer songwriters are....Canadian!! :D

Jayne

Completely agree. Canada has some amazing Americana music...who would have thought! Some of the other Americana groups I like the best are from the Pacific Northwest right in the heartland of America ;)

He's got one where he pairs the buzzy guitar with a really bad sounding bass drum.

I admit I don't get it. It's a style, but it's definitely not for me.

Canadians can do country too. I'm a big fan of Daniel Romano who put out a few incredible country albums.

I know it’s a Vintage brand guitar - I think it’s the Vintage VE440VB.

I'm glad this thread came up because I've wondered about the guitar too. I kinda like the raggedy buzzy tone for what he's doing. I just discovered this video today and he's playing what looks to me like a 000-15 Martin (it could be an older guitar from a different series, I'm not an expert) and his tone is much cleaner with this one. Great songs too.

Sad to think about how much energy I've invested over years not to buzz like that.
