What is Overdub.??

I'm going to purchase a Tascam DR-40 soon. It'll be my first recorder so go easy on me here...

What is "overdub.??" Does it mean one can lay down a rythym track and record a lead track over it.?? Or, might it mean one can record 2 tracks and then mix them together afterwards.?? Or, does it mean something else.??

Yes.

You can also do that in a rudimentary fashion inside the recorder. But it'll be easier and more fun for you to export the tracks via USB to your computer and use free or cheap DAW software to mix them.

Yeah, you've got it right: recording tracks along with other tracks.
