REAPER. Hands down. You can try their fully functioning trial, and buy a personal version for $40!

$40?? Wow, that is alot cheaper than what I was expecting! Nice

In this case, don't expect to get what you pay for. You get much more than you would think.

I just listened to Bruce William's very popular podcast "Building the Pod" about all things Adobe Audition. Bruce has been a keen supporter of the product for years, and in addition to his podcast has worked with Linda.com to publish a video series on using the product.

If you are not aware of Audition, it is a product that is the de facto software used in the radio industry. Its editing capabilities are very, very good.

Bruce just dropped the bomb that he has just tried Reaper, and he was blown away. He as much as said that Reaper was about to severely test his loyalty.

That is a strong endorsement that I respect and agree with. I have been a user of Audition since it was called Cool Edit, and before it was purchased by Adobe. I use Reaper now, when it suits the task (tracking and mixing, in my case) and use Audition for editing. Two great tools that play together nicely.

Good luck on your quest, and hope you find something that works well for you.

reaper is a phenomenal program, and an unbelievable bargain. i just found out the dude behind gnutella developed it. not that it matters, i just didn't know.

you can't do any better, at anywhere near that price.

I just bought Mackie's Tracktion 3 for 5 bucks at Musicians Friend. I think Mackie is not going to continue with this software, but at this price I had to give it a try. It is supposed to be one of the easiest to use since everything is on the screen that you need. I will update after I use it.
