what a spectacular guitar. I am sure it is even more special.....

It is a challenge for sure,,, I am hoping we get the guitar by 12/24/10, the one year anniversary of his passing. We will find a way to celebrate instead of mourn.

Thanks for all of the posts (keith and Burners) I was tickled to hear the sound clip! It is so great to see the progress and I am looking forward to seeing your build completed as much as I am my own! I agree 110% It has been nothing but a joy to work with The Burners they have been everything you have said Keith and more!

The really care about what they are working on , which is always so nice to work with people like that.

Having a quick glance through this thread, it seems the Burners are doing a really great job with the custom build so far and have great understandings to appreciate the sensitivity of such a project.
It'll be great to see the instrument finished and playable.

I have no doubt.

Man I know you've posted some mock ups but that is just awesome all together. Great choice Keith and great execution Paul and Kyle!

WOW! That is hot! Very nice color/wood choices being made here.

As someone who's first and only custom guitar build was done as a memorial, I've got to say that I think it's a great thing. I have something that I hold and cherish everyday to remind me. I'm very sorry for the loss that youv'e experienced, but I'm glad that you are finding a positive way to move forward.

That's awesome. I can see the name on the headstock. Peter over at Cornerstone sure builds some beauties.

RogerC 09-16-2010 03:40 PM

Thanks for posting that, Phil. It was actually the construction of that guitar that got me started on this forum.

Hey, I'm loving the look of this new guitar! That fretboard looks like sand dunes and sunset and then the waves for the rosette really builds on the surfing theme. I can't wait to see this one finished. Enjoy the rest of the build. Paul and Keith are great guys. I definitely want to have them build me one in the near future. Tom

It has all come together. The fretboard looks like a killer set of barreling waves, the rosette has both the idea of waves with a maple sky and also the sun .... it is going to have some really nice other items like themed soundport and the headstock is gonna be seriously sweet with the surfboard concept... Paul and Kyle hal really been easy to work with and our intellectual and creative sparring continues to elevate the uniqueness and quality of this build!

We are continuing to move along and it is getting sweeter by the day.

This is a rendering... we are set on going with Tiger Myrtle on front of headstock too...

This is the rosette.... understated beauty with the paua incorporating the water of the surfing theme.

Nice job Burners!

jeastman 09-20-2010 09:39 AM

The logo on that wood kind of reminds me of the Kokopelli (sp?) character. The paua around the rosette really looks nice as well.

I'm sure most good artisans are the same but I've really enjoyed working with Paul and Kyle because they are extremely open to hearing what you want and running with your idea then coming back and it's exactly what you were wanting and then some.

For those who don't know, it is a fertility deity which in mythology symbolizes fertility, pregnancy and birth. Well in my case with 7 children, it would be appropriate LOL They symbol is know as a trickster God also known to symbolize music, also appropriate for me too!

The creative sparring that has transpired really is making for an outstanding project. I have no doubt it was a great choice to give these guys a shot!

cpabolting 09-24-2010 09:33 AM

We are working on the soundport in the shape of a wave like the rosette. These artistic touches are really gonna make this a special one.

Ehvamone 09-24-2010 09:54 AM

So much creativity in honor of your brothers memory... Its beautiful.
I've been struggling to incorporate some way of honoring my best friend and drummer, who passed away, into my build and can attest how hard it is.
You have done so in a beautiful, artistic, dignified, wonderful way.
Great work.
