@dneal, yes, that is strikingly like the absolutely gorgeous rosette on this beautiful guitar!

redir 01-05-2021 03:17 PM

Stained glass was the first thing I thought of too. That's a great centerpiece there.

Matthew fancies himself Steve McQueen. No laughing, please. :) (On edit, laugh away!) Google "William Ash".

Matthew fancies himself Steve McQueen.

He's very good at digging tunnels. And very insubordinate to Nazis.

My favorite actor ever is Steve McQueen, and for those who haven't watched it, I highly recommend you rent it soon. It is based on a true story, and McQueen's character was from my neck of the woods in southeastern North Carolina (I realize that Bill Ash from Canada as above was one of the amalgam of characters used for the Cooler King) So, since I had the avatar, I figured I'd go with the name change too since I was also simultaneously trying to reduce my actual name presence on the interwebs. I'm not worried about you guys knowing my name, but the webMD and vitals.com etc have details of my professional life that freak me out.

So, there you have it. :)

I'm looking forward to the day when we can give one another grief in person! We've had some good times.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled program ... Matthew's gorgeous guitar in progress.

Absolutely stunning.

Guitars44me 10-26-2021 11:00 PM

12 fret!

Perhaps I'm behind the curve, but I just realized this is going to be a 12 fret!

Good on you! With a nice cut away… Now I'm completely jealous.

Cheers

Paul

Whew, that is one gorgeous rosette and the Pernambuco is going to explode in color under finish. I have a new OMC that should be in final stages so exciting times for us both.

Congrats on yours!

KingCavalier 10-27-2021 06:33 AM

Outstanding work, love the Rosette. Is it Re-con stone?

surdopickups 10-27-2021 06:59 AM

bella chitarra!

Nemoman 10-27-2021 09:32 AM

Ridiculously beautiful!

TomB'sox 10-28-2021 09:05 AM

I said it on FB, but I think this rosette is the prettiest he has ever done, probably until the next one, but this one is amazing.

Kenny B 10-28-2021 09:56 AM

This is going to be amazing, well worth the wait!

j. Kinnaird 10-29-2021 11:51 AM

What is that rosette made of. Beautiful it is.

I saw the completed pics of this guitar on my Facebook feed this morning and it is spectacular! A Jason Kostal masterpiece in every sense of the word!

doodahdoug 12-22-2021 10:07 AM

I saw this completed build on Jason's Instagram feed and like Kenny said this is a Kostal masterpiece, congratulations!

jklotz 12-22-2021 11:34 AM

Man that is going to be a nice guitar! I was on Dream Guitars site the other day and listened to the Kostal they have. That thing sounded heavenly!

Vaillant75 12-22-2021 03:21 PM

Joining the crowd in having already seen the guitar completed. A real masterpiece and Jason sounds really excited. Congrats

ericcsong 12-22-2021 04:22 PM

I told Jason he should ship it to me :D

CoolerKing 12-22-2021 10:15 PM

Finished!

Well, this has been an awesome journey with Jason. These are his photos, it will be shipping soon. The following is what Jason had to say about the guitar on his FB POST.

“This is my final completed guitar for 2021!

They say you aren't supposed to have favorites, but I do believe that a pine cone from Wisconsin and a burl from Alaska have helped create my favorite rosette and inlay combination ever!

This MDW possesses some of the most vibrant color combinations I have ever created with a beautiful acrylic resin infused pine cone for the rosette and dyed birch burl from the The 98 Fund property in Alaska for the Bashkin inspired position markers. These accents were added to a German spruce top and my "first ever" Pernambuco back and sides to create one of the most visually appealing and tonally diverse guitars that I have ever made.

Pernambuco, a tree that only grows in Brazil, is one of the most desired tone woods in the world... used exclusively in the creation of the world's finest violin, viola and cello bows, is rarely seen in guitars due to its small diameter at full size. Only a few trees grow to be wide enough to yield sets large enough to make a guitar. This set is a beautiful deep orange and will oxidize over time to a stunning deep reddish orange color as it continues to create a beautiful and articulate tonal palette. This guitar have been a long time in the making in my mind, and I am grateful to have found a client that asked me to make it into a reality, and I cannot be more pleased with how it looks, and more importantly, how it sounds. I cannot wait for this guitar to arrive in its new home and begin to sing again.“
