Augustine strings question

Classic/Black low tension or Classic/Red? Which is the mellower set?

Carey 11-24-2022 10:19 AM

Augustine basses:

Black- low tension
Red- medium tension
Blue- high tension

Augustine nylon trebles:

Classic- med-low tension (more like medium, to me)
Imperial- higher tension
Regal- highest tension

To me the Classic/Black set would be the mellowest.

You are welcome, Barry. The Augustine Classic trebles are sweet sounding- especially the first string- to me. I tend to like fairly low tension strings
though, so YMMV. ;)

Low tension are definitely the mellowest, but the feel is quite different.

I like to use regular or even high tension and control the mellow factor with my hands. For a guy like me who doesn't have amazing technique, I find a higher tension string actually gives me more dynamic range.
