Gibson g-45 bridge corner loose and dip in top
 

Hello all,

I’m hooping you can help me. This week I bought a Gibson G-45. A nice guitar intended for gigging.

Today I noticed two things (see photos):
- the corner of the bridge isn’t glued or unglued;
- there is a dip in the top next tot he bridge. It is also there on the other side of the bridge, but much less.

Does the bridge need to be repaired and what is with the dip (humidity?). I’m using humidipacks.

The dip is minimal and probably just string tension. Relax the strings and see if it goes down. IMO, the bridge should be glued down completely. That’s how I do my gits I build. If you’re the first owner it may be a warranty claim. If not it’s up to you to spend a few bucks and get it re glued. Not a major expense.

It is a new guitar.

Do they have to pull the whole bridge to fix this?

Yes to do it right. All the old glue on both surfaces needs to be removed, reglued and clamped again.

Will it only get worse or is probably stable as it is?

Only time can answer that question. Contact Gibson while it’s under warranty. It will only sound better with full contact.

It's not uncommon on some guitars to have the very edge of the bridge rabbet cut over the finish and not glued but that's obviously way to far. It could last for years like that who knows but it's a new guitar and it should be fixed for sure imho. And yes to do it right the bridge needs to be removed. As for the dip in the top, it's probably nothing to worry about but it also could be what separated the bridge from the top too.

Go have it checked out.

It wouldn't bother me at this point. If it's not loose behind the strings, I'd let it go.
