Rolling gig box

For transportation of Loudbox, mic stands, etc to a venue, what are some options? Stanley rolling tool box? Rolling cooler? It will also act as an amp stand when covered with black cloth. Mic stands are 39 inches folded.

How many mic stands are you talking?

If it's only a couple, you might want to think about these:

That would significantly reduce the size of the case you'd need to fit everything into. I've never used these stands, but I have 2 on my "short list" of things to buy.

Nah, I want to put the loudbox, mic stands (2), and the smallish bag that carries effects boxes, cables, mics, and all the "stuff" that goes with us to one or two person gigs. Lift in the back of my wagon and unload at the other end and pull it up to the stage, set up, and then use it (covered with black cloth) as an amplifier stand. I know, I could go by the fishman 330, etc..but I don't want to.

Maybe a wagon like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Goplus-Collap...s%2C560&sr=8-8

Canopy would provide enough elevation to put Loudbox on top of it. Would it be stable though? Good question. Would it be possible to cut a "tabletop" style piece of wood to put on the canopy to hold the Loudbox if the canopy does not provide stable support? Again, good question, and even if the answer is yes, adding a "tabletop" adds more weight, is one more thing to carry, one more step to add to both set up and tear down.

However, the wagon is collapsible and would provide great ergonomic mobility. At 38" length, your mic stands would probably fit if placed in the bottom diagonally.

There are a lot of wagons on Amazon, and probably all over the internet.

I use a Dewalt rolling box that I picked up at Home Depot. Has a pull out handle and two wheels like luggage. Works pretty well but I don't think your mic stands will fit. Packing for specific gigs is always a recipe for forgetting something so I load the box up with everything I need for most every gig. Which includes crazy stuff like 50 ft mic cords, 50 ft extension cords, stuff like that. Which means it gets heavy. If you are willing to pack for specific gigs/venues and don't deal with many unknowns, the box will probably hold it all. Except for mic stands.

I am going to look into the AirTurn stands and maybe get one for the box. Most every place we play has em but you never know for sure. I like the idea of having a spare stand or two that I can throw in the box.

Thanks for the tip.

Though I rarely use it, I have a folding 2 wheel "truck" (think: refrigerator mover but FAR lighter). I believe i bought it from Office Max or one of their competitors. Takes up little space when stored, is only about 5 lbs weight and carries a good 50 lbs or more. You can maneuver it almost anywhere.

I have a plastic storage bin I got from Walmart with wheels on one end. But its not long enough for my mic stands.

Looping back on the Airturn stand.

I got the stand and the boom. They are going back and I don't plan to get a replacement unless Airturn comes up with some explanation. Short of it, I can't imagine the stand holding up for more than a few assembly or disassembly operations. The top section hole that the set screw is threaded into was not drilled all the way through. With some force I can displace the remaining metal and get a bite on the tube in the sleeve. Not a good solution.

Second, the threaded boom, mic mount on top is staked in place. Unfortunately the staking is such that the mount turns inside the tube making it difficult to screw on the boom or the mic clip. I could probably take a hammer and chisel and stake it enough to get it to grab but I expect that would hurt my return options.

So at this point, in spite of the convenience, this product is not ready for the rigors of band use. Or home use. I'll follow up if anything other than return develops.

I feel physically violated after watching the assembly video on the link!! WTF??!!:(:roll:

This is my single trip setup. Holds everything I need for a solo gig, and I now have another box that interlocks with this one, but it doesn't have drawers, just an open tub.
I use velcro strips to hold the stool, mic stand etc to the collapsible trolley.

With tonight being the third time in a week moving gear, I want to find a not-too-huge rolling case that will fit my speaker stands, 2 mic stands and 1 or 2 guitar stands.
Right now I use a large duffle bag. Although it has a strap to use as a shoulder carrier, I always use the handles on either end as it is just too bulky to move around.
I don't think the speaker stands would fit in a standard plastic keyboard case.

That set up is the bomb

Very impressive. I wouldn't have thought of the veclro for holding bits and bobs...plus the stool seat. Like the idea of a tool box with slots, drawers, etc, vs an empty bin with several bags. Do you use the box as an amp stand at the gig?

Thanks

Also, is that a trombone/baritone or tuba mute on the amp in the background?

Zandit75 07-12-2019 03:38 PM

It took some time to work it all out before I bought the ones I wanted. Plenty of research, and measuring the boxes. Yes, I use the boxes as a stand for the amp too.
Good eye on the mute too! I play bass trombone in the local brass band. That's actually a practice mute as the missus is not a fan!!

I see you're in Tassie. I was lucky enough to be a guest of the RAAF back in the mid 90's. Three years at RAAF Richmond (a bit northwest of Sydney). Did a tour of Tassie as our first holiday.
