Guild D20 2016 Neck Reset?
 

Just bought 2016 Guild D20...7/64 and 4/64 + action at 12 th Fret..Looks like not a lot of saddle left to get lower action..and. Straight edge hits below bridge..Thoughts?? Thanks

If that straightedge was resting atop the frets, and the neck relief was reduced to zero, OP's concerns seem valid from this distance. If OP can get the guitar to a luthier before his return privilege expires, he might be comforted or alarmed, depending on the conversation with the luthier, and act in his best interests.

This post emphasizes what sometime evades us: Guitars are machines, and no matter how pretty they sound and how pretty they look, they need to be healthy machines first.

Neck reset is what is required. Shaving the bridge is the cheap fix....

The specs list it as a mortise and tennon neck joint not a dovetail, combine that with the satin finish and this guitar is a poor candidate for a neck reset IMHO.

How far below the bridge?

The determining factor is the action. Your numbers aren't so bad. How easy/hard is it for you to play? If you've got plenty of saddle so you can lower the action if/when need be, then you don't need a neck reset yet. Oh wait, you said there's not a lot of saddle left. You'll need a reset when the action is just too high and it's hard to play, AND there's not enough saddle left to lower the action. If your action is still OK, you don't need a reset yet. Hard to say, but the guitar could be stable, and it could be OK to play for years.

As mentioned, it's never a bad idea to take it in to a luthier or a good tech and have him/her check it out.

For me..I'm a jazz hack..I play alot of chords up and down the neck...not so much 1st position...E..G..A..D..etc..So .it's difficult and high action for my playing..Guitar is two years old ..bought and set up by Sweet Water! Seeing a Luthier. tomorrow.. Thanks

Ok.. Luthier says guitar is a hair above normal ...so...tweak truss rod..nut and saddle..a few high frets... hoping no fret level for awhile..

Neck reset down to a setup, not bad.

This shows the importance of diagnosing a guitar correctly
