Best pair of headphones for listening on YouTube ?
 

Ok folks , which headphone would you recommend me trying out to listen to guitar playing on YouTube ? The headphone must be able to make me spot a difference between guitars .

Just recommend me one and what headphones you have right now ? I apologize if this is in the wrong section

Assuming you want cheaper than more expensive, and wired vs bluetooth, these at $129 are awesome.

I have these, and I also have the $349 bluetooth Bose phones. Both are great.

Just care for the chintsy cord; that is my peeve with the phones.

I have used Audio-Technica ATH-M50 headphones ($134.95) for a few years. To my ears, they more accurately represent musical sounds than other headphones I have tried. They are also comfortable, and can be folded and placed in their pouch for travel.

As the audio on Youtube is highly compressed and of low quality, any $20 headphones will reproduce everything that is there.

Same thoughts here. I don't use anything special for Youtube.

Then I assumed most people use it for SoundCloud ?

Wifey has a pair of Parrot Zik Bluetooth headphones. Exclt quailty & build. They are solidly build w/ exceptional sound. They are a bit heavy, but certainly look like you won't break them Parrot Zik. List price is about $175 at Amazon & they have a Zik 3 model that costs a bit more $, but only work w/ Apple! The Zic 2 are redesigned & built lighter w/ Aluminum ~ not steel. YT Review

I've had a set of the Bose QC 3 for years & really like them for their comfort & compactness. Battery life is good for 25 hrs. My only regret is that they aren't wireless.

I did see a newer pair of Bose Soundlink at Costco the other day that were wireless & thought they sounded great. Price was $179.

Didn't care for Apples' Beats. Too finicky...

OK now I'm on Planet Earth. Where to start. If you want to max out your budget, the Oppo PM-3 is IMHO the absolute best closed back planar magnetic headphone on the market today, it's like $399. One of the few great quality headphones I know that also comes in different colors:

This was my first set of decent headphones, and the prices have come down in the past four years, I think I paid almost $475 for them and now they're more like $275. Great headphone for portable devices like iPhone/iPad/Android etc because the resistance is 32 Ohm, meant for these devices:

Hard to beat Grado Labs, assuming you have a reasonably quiet space. You can get a 325 for well under your budget.

For louder settings, my fav is the Beyerdynamic DT1350.

Oppo makes top shelf products. Their DVD players are also exceptional, as is their Customer SVC. I did look at their headphones when I brought my dvd players in for firmware updates. Great company!

I just did a bunch of digging on headphones and ended up buying the Sennheiser HD 650's. I found an open box unit for $265 plus $5.00 shipping...so $270. Regular list price is $499...many stores sell them for $339. The deals are out there. These are open back headphones, so there will be some bleed from them...good for mixing, bad for tracking.


These come very highly recommended by many people.

I highly recommend KRK KNS8400.

My brother has Audio-Technica ATH-M50, and a while back we did a bunch of comparing on different styles of music and movies, and concluded that the KRKs are slightly better. More spacious sound and a bit crisper high frequencies. Plus they're cheaper ($100), and have a replaceable cord, which is usually the first failure point on headphones.

I disagree with sbeirnes about youtube quality making good headphones pointless. Sure some videos are recorded on crappy mics, but others are very good other than a tiny bit of compression noise. And cheap headphones often can't produce deep bass frequencies, or have other frequency balance problems, which is a totally separate thing from compression noise.

Those are very good.

I have the P5 series and love them. They're surprisingly compact for the sound quality and am sure that's had them used more than if I bought the larger top models.

Something I observed with the B&W is they're not scooped or bass heavy in the way many popular headphones are. It doesn't make some types of music stand out like some do but it makes them comfortable as far as listening.

Koss Port A Pro are always worth looking into for the price and hearing what's around you.

For playing guitar as same time I use Apple's buds because you hear the surroundings more. That's especially important for acoustic guitar play along. They're also much less expensive.
