I will occasionally check the recording out with a darker sounding AKG K240 Studio headphone. |

Can you say what you hear in differences between the the two Grados you mentioned? |

I got lots of very good compliments on Grado headphones too. Lot's of people like them. My only problem with Grado was that there were so many different levels of quality, I became confused and didn't want to buy an inferior set. They keep trying to sell you the next step up all the way to $1,600...is that to say the $1,600 phones are five times better than the $300 phones ?? Would I be missing out on something ?? or would I get snookered buying an $800 dollar set when a $300 set would be just as good...too much confusion ....not being able to try them out was a problem too....on the other hand, the Sennheiser HD650's are the flagship and were highly recommended, and have been for years.

I mostly use Grado SR325is and AKG 240DF, both open backs, but 90% of the time I listen through monitors. For tracking I use an inexpensive pair of closed back Tascam. For audiobooks on the iPhone I use an identical pair of the Tascam.

Well, I don't know if I've made a silly beginners mistake but today I ordered a Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro that will be used for mixing our next CD. I'll check the mixes on inexpensive little Mackie CR3 monitors and on the ATH M50x that we're using to lay down the tracks, but the DT 880 will allow me to mix in my office arm chair which is really the goal.

The new girlfriend likes the new Sennheiser HD650's. She uses them to listen to music while surfing the web.

I would think twice about mastering OR mixing with headphones only. Tracking headphones, Sony 7506.

Perfect. That's a very good deal, and enjoy.

I'll have to start shopping around for the Oppo PM3. Any reviews on here for the B&W P5 Series 2? I've always liked their products starting with the 600 series on up.
