Chasson Classic for Healdsburg
Here's one I'm starting for Healdsburg. It will be my Classic body style, a steel-string 12 fret guitar in a body based on a Rodriguez classical guitar shape.
I had a couple of good wood finds last year. I was over at a friends furniture shop and he had a stack of some of the sweetest Ziricote I've seen lately. Nice even spider webbing, great color, and some was perfectly quartered with prominent radial flecking. He wouldn't part with any of his stash but he hooked me up with his source. Then I got a call from a guy who had a pickup load of Redwood. It was cut over 40 years ago and sat in storage for a project that never happened. He thought some of it would make good guitar wood and he was right! I re-sawed something like 150 sets for him and kept some in trade. The set I chose for this guitar has some of the nicest silk I've seen. I have a lot going on at the moment so progress may be slow on this one. But I wanted to get this thread started before getting too far into it. Thanks for looking! http://www.chassonguitars.com/images...back_sides.jpg http://www.chassonguitars.com/images.../zirc_back.jpg http://www.chassonguitars.com/images...gf/redwood.jpg http://www.chassonguitars.com/images...dwood_silk.jpg |
That ziricote is beautiful.

Gorgeous wood pairing, Kent. I look forward to following the progress and playing this beauty at Healdsburg!

Man, I just love this forum!
Can't wait to see this one come to life... Thanks Kent, for sharing, this is one fabulous looking set of woods and I'll be the "tap" is to die for too. |
wow..................
|
I agree, the redwood/ziricote should be a nice paring. I look forward to seeing and hearing this one in August.
|
Thanks all.
Kirkham, I was unclear in my original post. It is actually a steel-string in a classical body shape. I wanted the name to reflect that but it can be a source of confusion. I edited the description to clarify that it's a steel-string. Maybe one of these days, I'll build a nylon string in a 00 body just for kicks. :) |
What a stunning set of Ziricote!
|
Both the Top and Back and Side woods look GREAT! Very nice combination. EVERY Ziricote / Redwood guitar I've played has been a fine instrument. I'm sure this will be fantastic. I'll see it in Healdsburg.

I might just want to bring that back with me.. (or have it shipped I hate traveling with guitars).
|
those are awesome looking woods, I think the customer will be very happy.

Hi Kent - Gorgeous! I'm ironically playing my Classic as I read this and folks, I can tell you, Kent's small bodies are astonishing....Regards, Robert

So what nut and saddle spacing are you going to build with?
In other words, do I need to buy a ticket to CA in August?:D |
Hey Kent.......going to be a beauty for sure!!

At the moment, I'm leaning toward a 25.4" scale with a 1.75" nut and 2.25" strings spacing at the saddle. For the neck, I have a small stash of neck wood from yet another good find that I'm considering. I want to wait a bit longer to decide on that though. I love working with clients but every once in a while, it's nice to just see what happens without planning everything in advance. |
