Lawrence K Brown - Guitar Builder in Asheville, NC
I ran across a reference to this luthier, and since I was not familiar with him, I researched him on the web.
It looks like he has built over 2,000 stringed acoustic instruments to date (including many guitars), but I can not find a single reference to him on this site. How is this possible? Luthier Larry Brown has made 2,000 lutes, violas, more |
Looks like his main focus is building lutes, not guitars...
Larry Brown likes lutes. He's probably made more of them than anyone in the history of lute making since the Renaissance, around 1,300 or so. He also makes violins, violas, reproductions of antique instruments and more... |

Looks like a lot of guitars for one guy!

I have one of his incoming that I picked up from the classifieds so I will post a NGD thread.
|
He has also built some LG-2 styles in the past as well.

He does a pretty burst too. And only an hour or so from me....
|
I have seen one of his D-28 style guitars. It was pretty nice.

He has written a number of articles for the Guild of American Luthiers on building lutes, and they're really quite good reading. They're collected in the GAL Red Books (collections of their articles into large volumes) and they're of benefit to potential builders for certain.

Thought about getting one of Larry's LG-2 builds myself but I realized I have all I need for now. Maybe some day.
