SCGC Custom OM/PW NOW $3500 **SOLD**

I'm back from the Woodstock show with my eye on a build I saw there and in gotta-sell-one-to-get-one mode. I listed this SCGC about a year ago, got a bunch of offers I couldn't accept and eventually pulled it back. I'm re-listing for a straight sale.

This is a 2013 model I took in trade with virtually no playing time on it. None. Even the tuners were tight and I subsequently swapped out the nickel Gotohs for smoother gold w/ ebony buttons. Originals are in case pocket. It's set up perfectly, perfect neck angle, and plays effortlessly. Low E at 12th is <3/32. Tight grained Adi top w/ some nice silking, natural gloss finish over dark chocolate EIR. The smell is still in there. Adi braces, hide glue, a lot of stuff here, all tastefully vintage without the glitz. Tone is LIVELY, orchestral, articulate, with lots of overtone and sustain. Guitar has areas of top finish checking, I'm told from a shipping issue to/from original owner. I've tried to capture this in pix below and price accounts for this. None of the checks catch thumbnail and guitar is otherwise pristine.

2013 OM/PW Custom
Top: Adirondack
B/s: Indian Rosewood
Soft cutaway
Scale: 14-fret, 25.375
Bracing/Voicing: Advanced X, scalloped
Adi braces
Deep body - 4 1/2" at tail
Ab rosette and top
All hide glue
45-style fingerboard markers
PLEKed
1 3/4 nut
2 1/4 spacing
Neck shape - I'd call it a D with a soft spine that gives it a slightly V feel
Case - original Ameritage

$3500 (11/14)

My crappy cell phone can't capture the rich color of the adi against semi sweet dark chocolate

Thank dford!

Re: the top checking as I've gotten a number of questions - There are 12 in all, 10 clustered on treble & bass sides of lower bout and 1 emanating from each bridge wing. Looking straight at top, only the 2 from the bridge are visible, barely. As noted up top, there are no finish eruptions and they're not detectable to fingernail. I bought the guitar with full knowledge of this as checking is pretty much a non-issue for me and I was getting a killer guitar at a really nice price. So, if you want an 8K SC one-off at less than half its cost, there's this....

So many nice OMs on these pages I'll just have to keep bumping this up, with good faith offers respectfully considered!

brencat 11-11-2018 02:50 PM

Hang in there partner. You have a beautiful OM/PW there and quite reasonably priced. Tough market right now.

Price lowered to $3500 for this Custom Santa Cruz....

roberts 11-16-2018 10:05 AM

Back to the top for the weekend. Would consider trade for the right Gibson, preferably a Hummingbird Vintage....

NewPicker 11-16-2018 03:19 PM

I traded this one to Robert and, after many amazing guitars over the years, I very much consider this the "one that got away."

It represents all the good things you know, or have heard, about the SC Deep Body OM/PW.

All that, and a terrific guy to deal with!

playtobias 11-17-2018 01:02 PM

Cool guitar. I have grown to love the abalone purfling. Richard Hoover does not just build guitars, he looks at each build as a masterpiece.

Thanks for the nice words, Nate. Right about the guitar, not so sure about the seller....

Thanks and I totally agree. I always considered SCGC to be essentially a custom shop. All the ab on this guitar is fairly understated, in keeping I guess with the fact that it is a PW. As an example, here's the simple thin strip of ab at tail wedge:

Holiday break over, back to the top....

TomB'sox 11-25-2018 05:56 PM

This is a beautiful set of EIR on that back. Wonderful. Great seller too.

Tom

roberts 11-27-2018 08:38 AM

Hey thanks, Tom. Gorgeous, mirror-like finish on the back....

Weekend bump for this kaleidoscopic little monster....

Heel Cap

The heel cap is different. Must be a custom feature on this om?

The rounded heel is common on Santa Cruz cutaways, so the curve blends seemlessly into the neck. It’s a style thing.

..... and a comfort-of-play thing!
Steve

roberts 12-02-2018 08:55 AM

I believe it's also the heel shape they use on the F....But back to more important matters. Who's gonna buy this guitar?

roberts 12-04-2018 11:07 AM

Mid-week bump!
