Second trip to Larry for the torch ...
For the second time around the neck/peghead is off to Larry to inlay the torch. I am happy to report it has been successfully delivered (thank you FedEx)!
https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2860/...d5f8f0_o_d.jpg Meanwhile, back at the ranch ... work continues. Here Steve adds the soundport binding. https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2867/...602a40_o_d.jpg A glimpse of the soundport from the side. The darker areas on the sides are the remnants of some protective shellac. https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2933/...eca0ab_o_d.jpg And the body begins to come together. Here the back is attached to the sides. I love this high-tech approach. https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2893/...5333bb_o_d.jpg I am off to the Artisan Guitar Show this weekend. I hope to get some good photos and video from there and post over on that thread. |
Looking good Dennis, that back and side wood is so incredibly beautiful....color me jealous.
Wish I could have made it this weekend, was going to take today off, instead ended up needing to work today AND tomorrow morning!!!! Go figure. Have fun. |
Rosette anyone ???
Steve and I have been talking about my rosette. We want it to fit nicely with the fretboard TOL and peghead torch which is quite the challenge. Steve came up with an awesome idea to use some swirly things from the fretboard and and element or two from the torch inlaid in a center ring of Ebony surrounded inside and out by half herringbone Verawood rings to match the purfling we talked about for the top. The wood for the rosette elements will match those used in the fretboard and peghead, namely both shades of Madi, Bloodwood and green tinted Maple. Being the Photoshop crazy person I am, I worked up this mockup.
https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2885/...6dd7c1_o_d.jpg So Ryan has the base setup with the center Ebony ring and the bwb with teflon spacer in position for the Verawood. I think this will be the ticket. https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2888/...942d9d_o_d.jpg https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2866/...6fb676_o_d.jpg |
Holy cow Dennis, that will be awesome. You missed your calling, you should be a graphic design artist or something....that looks amazing. Good Luck Steve and Ryan in getting it done to look like that!!!! AND I love the Kinnaird fret board flourish at the end too. That adds so very much.

Great collaboration you guys--that rosette will look schweeet will the other elements you have going on!

That looks great! It gives me ideas. Thanks for the look and good luck bro getting that cut out and inlayed.

Most impressive looking indeed!

We kicked around the idea at work today of simply printing Dennis' rendering on high quality paper, and gluing it around the sound hole. That way, it would look exactly as Dennis drew it.
Can you say découpage? (Can you spell it?!) Anyway, it could get scratched up with vigorous playing and simply be replaced. Always looking out for you, Dennis! |
Awesome
What a monster rosette! Dennis you rock the photoshop app!
This will be so fine.... And it is a Kinnaird, so we all know the sound will be astonishing, too! Nice going guys Cheers Paul |

Woah... you could have fooled me with that photoshopped rosette! Now the pressure is on Steve to make sure he meets that standard ;)
|
Ah, no pressure...
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: |
I trust what Steve and Ryan work up on this will be great. Steve dreamed up the rosette design. I just used some technology to make a pretty picture they can use to visualize. The guitar looks awesome so far. There is no reason to believe it doesn't get even better from here!

Safe at home in Texas ...
Received a long awaited email from my good friends at Kinnaird Guitars last night! The finished TOL fretboard and torch peghead are in their hands. Fantastic news! And WoW ... Wow ... Wow did Larry knock this one out of the park! Even in these quickie photos you can see the incredible detail work. Can't wait this baby up close.
https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2890/...c2629d_o_d.jpg This torch is better than I imagined and under finish will really pop against the Ebony. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3927/...faf75a_o_d.jpg And as I knew they would, they Texas Kinnairds have begun to amaze with their work on our rosette. https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3939/...2a2620_o_d.jpg I am charged up on this build. Exceeding my hopes on so many levels. Tremendous! |
