NGD (and newish member)

My CF-100 arrived today :guitar: ... I found this forum while I was
researching it, I like it here.

There are several CF-100s that you can find for sale on the
Internet, some of the new ones and also some original ones.
I got a 1953 from Gary's Classic Guitars, it was the nicest
looking one I found anywhere and dealing with Gary turned
out to be very pleasant. He sent the guitar in a nice new
Martin case.

I guess most of us start out on $100 guitars. I got my first (and
only) other good guitar in 2003, #132 made by Ken Stika (RIP).

My wife's in there playing the CF-100 now, it is different, but we
like it. It seems in top-notch shape.

How's the neck for you?

Welcome to the AGF! What a great way to introduce yourself, with a NGD. Enjoy your '53 Gibson.

Great looking pair of guitfiddles you got there. Be careful around the cutaway on that Gibson. It looks like it could put your eye out.:D

Congratulations and welcome to the AGF!
Very nice looking example - your post had me doing a little research of my own ... I like it!

All the best with your new addition.

I think the guitar plays well and chords easy. I noodled out
some pentatonic nonsense, that was just fine too. I've played
some cheap guitars whose fretboards seemed "clumsy",
this one seems "crisp"... sorry about the adjectives... I
never thought much about V or C shapes...

Hmmm... the teevee's on... loudon wainwright iii is playing
a little Gibson(?) on Mash... is that an lg-2?

Congrats! The Gibson CF-100 is the one vintage guitar that I have always wanted. Very cool. Enjoy!

Best,

I showed the cf-100 to the luthier I go to yesterday, he
seemed to think it was in fine shape. I sure do like it,
it is so easy to play :) ...

Mike (the luthier) is a real personable guy, his shop is
full of work but he's always got a few minutes and a few
stories. We handled the body of a 30's lg-0 he had
sitting there, it was cool looking at the neck joint all
exposed like that.

I mentioned how few cf-100s were made and the version
with the p-90 pickup and he talked some about the
laminate j-160s that had p-90s in them... they were
made the way they were so that they'd not have so
much feedback, but were dull acoustically.

Phooey.... I never thought much about fretboard width or
radius either. Now when I play my wonderful Ken Stika
guitar, I realize I like the less-wide neck of the cf-100
way more ... Now I'm wondering about j-45s and j-15s...
I've been sure for almost 20 years that I had a guitar that
would satisfy me from now on, and now it is like I'm infected
with curio$ity

I took some measurements of my two guitars. The numbers
seem similar, but the two C-shaped necks sure don't. The
Ken Stika guitar neck seems so much wider when I play it.
Would a luthier who makes guitars have a tool to measure radius?

cf-100:
radius: 12 (?)
nut width: 1 22/32 - 1.69
width of neck at body: 2 4/32 - 2.125

stika:
radius: ?
nut width: 1 24/32 - 1.75
width of neck at body: 2 6/32 - 2.187
