What custom guitar commissions are you expecting delivery on in 2021?

Thankfully, there are only a few days remaining in this awful year of 2020. I suspect that a number of fellow AGFers have some custom guitar commissions in the build queue (particularly after being locked up at home for almost a year now!). Hopefully some of you will share your commissioned guitars here in the AGF “Custom Shop” throughout 2021.

What guitar(s) are you expecting and from which builders and luthier(s) will we be seeing here in 2021?

I will update a summary list here over the next 4-weeks (through January) based on responses in this initial post.

I'm on Rory Dowling's build list at Taran Guitars. Build of my Tirga Mhor is due to start some time around May. I'm hoping to share my story in return for all the fun I've had living vicariously through others' builds for the last two years. Looking forward to seeing what else is in the works.

I am expecting a guitar from John Greven in Portland, OR. I believe it's nearly finished and hope he will ship soon after the first of the year.

It will be a OO 12-fret with a soft cutaway and forearm bevel (something John has never done before) in Brazilian RW and Lutz spruce. Flamed koa binding on the body and headstock. Herringbone purfling on the top. Koa rosette. Brazilian RW bridge (I think) and headstock overlay. Blank fretboard. Gold Gotoh mini tuners (18:1 ratio) and a K&K Pure mini pickup.

Curious to read what others have in the works.

Happy new year everyone :)

Bill

12 fret Dread in 42 style from Lynn Dudenbostel in Feb/March. The journey has been a pure pleasure!

Guitars44me 12-30-2020 10:52 AM

John Kinnaird

I am super excited about this:

https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=582062

I expect it early in 2021, God willing and the crick don't rise... :)

My Fifth super custom from John Kinnaird! We have cooked up a slew of nifty ergonomic and tonal upgrades in my "Pablo Package".

I believe a couple of fellow AGFers are currently rattling John's cage about similar guitars, one perhaps a 12 string!

A wonderful and safe New Years to all!!!

Paul

I'm lucky enough to be on your list. I having Steve Sherriff/Edwinson guitars build me an old groth cedar and EIR om size fingerstyle guitar with a cutaway. It'll be my 1st custom.

Dogma 12-30-2020 12:56 PM

Ready to go but intentionally delayed until after the holidaze shipping frenzy:

John Walker "Lolo Creek" (L00) Red Spruce/beeswing figured H. Mahogany

I will post picts of build and finished instrument once I receive it.

warfrat73 12-30-2020 01:55 PM

I'm expecting an OM from Jayson Bowerman sometime in the late summer or fall. It's going to be walnut and reclaimed "cookshack" Sitka, most of the other details are still TBD.

Rmccamey 12-30-2020 04:13 PM

Ciaran McNally OM Sitka/Walnut.

srick 12-30-2020 04:46 PM

Dale Fairbanks F35 with a few special mods and built from a special piece of mahogany.
The build is Illustrated here :https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/...d.php?t=583114

AFAIK, all it needs is a neck and finish. The box is done.

Rick

Dale Fairbanks F35. Pretty much a stock build. Got a pic today of the body getting buffed out. Gluing the neck on is next!

Dreading the possible/probable mid winter shipping to Ohio.

Itzkinguitars 12-30-2020 08:06 PM

Tom Sands model S due in autumn

Bruce Sexauer 12-30-2020 08:14 PM

Business is good for me lately, and it looks like it may be that no regular AGFers have guitars coming in 2021, and it looks like I'm already be booked for most of the year! Actually, there is a guy who has posted here in AGF who has a couple coming, but it will surprise me if he checks into the thread. He is not yet a regular.

CoolerKing 12-30-2020 08:52 PM

Kostal MDW, LeGeyt CLM, Circa OM :)

The Bard Rocks 12-30-2020 09:42 PM

1, first in a few years - a Tom Rein steel string.

(much later)

Oops, that's over - he can't do it. after all. OK, who can? Who do you recommend for spectacular sound?

(later still) I am talking with Simon Fay now and we are going for one with a tiger myrtle body, a build we are both looking forward to.

justonwo 12-30-2020 09:55 PM

Brondel OM-28. Brondel OM-18. Brondel Strat. Brondel Thinline Tele. Circa 00-12 and maybe a 0-12 but don’t know the timing. LeGeyt CLM. Fairbanks Super Smeck. Baranik Firecrest. And a Humphreys amp.

cigarfan 12-31-2020 05:30 AM

None in 2021. Circa OM-45 in 2022.

Well worth the wait Dennis...:)

iim7V7IM7 12-31-2020 07:26 AM

Bruce, I hope some of your clients decide to share their new instruments with the forum (particularly their playing impressions). Short of that, I hope that you post a “Sexauer/2021” thread to let us observe over your shoulder while you work in your shop...:)

Bruce, I'll second that request for a 2021 thread. My two Sexauers have been stellar.

As far as incoming commissions, I have a Stefan Sobell 40th Anniversary MS MkIII model in Brazilian RW and european spruce coming in the first couple months of the new year.

4mykey 12-31-2020 11:13 AM

I actually have 2 custom guitars on order that should be done sometime this year. The first is a Franklin BRW/German OM from Nick Kukich. He has plans to start it in February.
The second is a Bastogne Walnut/redwood OM from a local luthier, Rick Kneale, which should also be ready sometime this year.

I am so glad to hear your report, Tim. So many guitars go off never to be heard from again. Anti-climactic for me after the intense relationship that generally gestates the guitar.

My habit of sharing my process in the forums has become pretty ingrained, and is very likely to continue through 2021: Happy New Year!!!

fregly 12-31-2020 12:55 PM

Ed Bond OO 14fret White Oak/Adi. Delivered in 2022 most likely, though.

Chipotle 12-31-2020 01:09 PM

Just move my Beau Hannam 12-fret 00 from 2020 delivery to 2021... things took longer than expected! But it should be soon.

SprintBob 12-31-2020 02:01 PM

Kostal OMC in koa/German spruce due probably end of February.

Teleplucker 12-31-2020 02:51 PM

Tony Karol Solo Model due in fall of 2021

Tracerbullet 12-31-2020 05:30 PM

Not a guitar but I am waiting on a custom banjo. Probably get around to the build in late September early October

fredsj200 12-31-2020 06:38 PM

A Fairbanks F-50 (SJ-200) by late 2021. Still working on details.

Please share it here. Who is the maker?

srick 12-31-2020 07:23 PM

I’m counting four Fairbanks builds, not three... but then, who’s counting? ;)

Rick
