Yes both mine are right there I have a 1997...750 dred 12 String
and a 1999... 810ce dred both bought new in 98 and 2002, respectively

Does it count if it's 40 years old?

That's interesting - Taylor refinished the top and it's not as "opened up" as it was before. I wonder how many people have had that done and had unwanted tonal changes?

I'm the original owner of my amazing 1995 Taylor 510 dreadnought - Sitka top, hog back and sides, wonderful tone!

I am NOT a Taylor guy.....however....I recently picked up a 1989 Taylor Dan Crary that Richard Gilewitz owned and recorded with for many years. It’s probably one of the better sounding guitars I’ve owned. Nearly as good as my old Santa Cruz Tony Rice...and that’s saying something. So, I guess now I AM a Taylor guy!

The question "Who owns a 20 year old Taylor" was asked when this thread was started in 2011 which means the guitar would have to be a 1991 or older to qualify.
I have a very nice 1996 512-M that doesn't qualify.

Almost like new. I particularly like the mahogany on the backside of this guitar. (See post 124 for the front)

I own a 1999 Taylor 355 12 string jumbo. No electronics; no problem.
Bought it new and still own it. And it still sounds great.
My first Taylor instrument. And not my last.

I don't own a 20-year-old Taylor, but I do own a 514CE built in 2001, so 18 years old. Pretty close.

I just took it to my longtime technician in Olympia who fixed up the action for me. He tells me I am pretty close to needing a full refret on this guitar. I had no idea that I had used it that much. It's a very sweet guitar, though in the last year it has gotten harder to play. So that has now been taken care of.

This is my Taylor 514CE...

I own a 1996 Taylor 412K with a 3-piece back...quite rare. I bought it new at Guitar Center in San Jose. This one has quite a bit more figure than one normally sees on the Koa 412s from that era. Interesting story about that...

I'd gone in there to pick out an acoustic guitar with a certain budget, found that they had their Taylor 412s on sale...same guitar,, but with mahogany back & sides...put the best one I could find on layaway. When I went back in a couple weeks to pay it off and pick it up, found that they had just shoved it into their layaway bin without putting it in a case. Predictably, it got all dented & scarred up in that time...sheesh...

I made a big stink about it...went to select a replacement and found the one I have now, that was labelled (and priced) as a '412', but it was actually 412K...koa back & sides. They tried to backpedal on this...I made an even bigger stink, eventually walked out with the 412k at the sale price of the regular 412. Served them right...I really did like that mahogany one and would have been thrilled with it, as it was the best of about six of them I tried. Lucky for me, this little Koa beauty is special. Very sparkly, but with surprising low end growl when I lean into it a bit, and incredibly easy playing.

Sometime not long after this, Taylor went to that weird-looking finger-joint scarf at the headstock. I understand the reasoning, and it's probably a stronger joint than the un-scarfed one I have, but I didn't care for the look of it.

I traded both my 1996 422 and 1999 355 ( needed a neck reset - pre NT .. expensive! ) but I'd be happy to own a Taylor Again ... a big one .. a Grand Orchestra.

I own a 1991 Koa top, side and back 855c. Im the second owner and have had it since 1993.
