Joel, pretty much a full 250,000 mile overhaul. Neck reset, refret, New nut, saddle. The whole she-bang. A friend of ours recently acquired it and wants it in close to tip-top shape. Probably to eventually find its way into a Guild collector’s hands.

That Brazilian Guild is a first for me ... what a cool guitar!

This is one of my favorite stages in the process, Ryan. You get to stand back and see it as a guitar for the first time, with the accompanying sense of accomplishment.....

.....and then, after that brief moment of wonder and excitement.....the reality of the “finishing” part of the process sets in.....and I cry!!! Ha ha, not really.....well, maybe a little bit.

This reality is why I was interested in talking to you, at Toms, about the logistics of having someone else do the finishing. It’s not that I don’t enjoy doing it myself.....but that I’d rather be using the time to build the next one.

This is a really cool looking guitar, guys.....and I’m looking forward to seeing her all shiny and strung up.

Joel, I understand. You feel like you have built something at this stage, but...then it has to be made it to something complete. Tony does save us many heartaches while we continue building. If his finish wasn’t so darn perfect maybe it would be a harder choice, but it is - and it’s an easy one to make. :)

I hope it's ok to post this here, guys - seemed like a good place to do so. ;)

A friend and I had the opportunity this week to drive over to Nacogdoches and visit with Steve and Ryan and they are very gracious hosts!

Steve and I both have Gallagher guitars from the same era, '75 for mine and '76 for his, so I took mine for a comparison. Plus, we were able to share stories about our first visits to Gallagher Guitars.

Tony is a FINISH WIZARD
 

I am frequently amazed at the durability of Tony's finish, as well as the beauty and TONE. I have often been saved from my own mistakes and miscalculation by Tony's work. Tough stuff, and so pretty.

David, it was a blast getting to visit with you and Barry. And finally getting to meet. Ryan and I love such gatherings, as they beat working all to pieces. Of course your Gallagher was a delight to see/play as it is of historical significance. And I'm not laughing while playing your guitar because it was/is no laughing matter. It's simply the best first effort to come through our shop. Thanks for bringing it!
Now that you know how to find us, don't be a stranger. Only next time, bring your Laguna band saw with you? :D

Bring some billets when you come visit and we'll have a resawing session on the Laguna - seriously.
