Got a deal on a matched pair of AT 4041ís...

$300 bucks for the pair in like new condition.

That's a rather good pair of SD mics.

Martin Maniac 12-16-2019 04:36 PM

Thatís what I thought too, the price wasnít too bad either, a new matched pair goes for $499....so Iím getting 2 quality mics for $150 each, perfect for stereo recording the Roland JC 40 !!!

Martin Maniac 12-16-2019 04:54 PM

Iím also planning using them for recording the Martin D-35.

Right now I have two MXL 603ís these AT4041ís should be a nice upgrade.

That's a great price on those. I'm interested in your compare/contrast between them and the 603s if you decide to post about it.

I had a pair of 603s many moons ago. I hardly ever used them because they were so noisy and quite bright. I'm not familiar with the 4041 but I do have a 4051 that I used quite a bit some years back. I'm guessing that should be a pretty decent upgrade for you. Congrats on the good deal.

The MXL 603's sound surprisingly pretty good, considering I got them for about $100 bucks each. However because they were so inexpensive, I rarely used them as I just didn't have respect for a mic so cheap. They sounded okay to me, but I wanted a more legitimate model, if you know what I mean. I did my homework on the 4041's and they get 5 star reviews from every review I could find. I haven't heard them yet as I won't get then till tomorrow, but I am excited about getting them. No matter what, I think they'll make a great addition to my meager mic collection. I can't afford Neumanns at this time....but these should cover my needs , plus they'll look great mounted in front of my Roland JC40.

I just pick them up and theyíre in excellent condition the seller also included a couple of cables for an extra 20 bucks

Attachment 30601 Here they are...

They didnít come with a fancy case or mic stand adapters, just the basic mics, which doesnít bother me because I already have adapters and donít need case.

KevWind 12-17-2019 08:02 AM

That sounds like a pretty good deal about 1/2 the price of a new pair. Congrats

The frequency response graph looks pretty flat up to about 4k where the are some slight bumps (rises) happening @ 4k , @ 6k and just above 10k. Which should work pretty well with most guitars and work great with some specific guitars with little or no EQ
Be interested to hear your review on recording

Iím working today will try them out late tonight

Martin Maniac 12-17-2019 01:32 PM

I was able to plug them in for a minute, they put out a very hot signal, found a couple mic stand adapters, will be able do sound checks later...

If the mics are "hot" and adaptors are press mount and not shock mount, you may want to consider investing in a pair of shock mounts for them.
