Custom GS Mini NGD! Soon

Chompin' at the bit for this one. I have a really good luthier friend in Nashville building me a guitar that I've always wanted to hear as solid wood since the first time I picked one up, a GS Mini with a 1 3/4" nut! All the specs of a Taylor but with a two way truss, Hipshot locking tuners and a K&K installed.
Just waiting for the laquer to be applied and I am hoping to book a flight and bring her home!
Super blessed! Here's a few pics, will post more when I get it home.

Looks great!
I dig the rosette!

That's really nice looking (love the rosette too)
Will it have the arched back like the mini's do to generate more sound?
Can't tell from that last photo.
Anyway - congrats. Great idea!

I had him build it just a little deeper as I wanted a little more bass and yes the back is shaped like a Taylor but with internal bracing, East Indian Mahogany and Sitka top.

Nice! Are the back and sides solid wood?

prayzhm 04-19-2018 11:44 AM

Yes with a blood wood binding.

Wow. That is awesome.

Very cool! I hope you put up a sound clip or video once you get it. I bet it’ll sound very good.

If it sounds like it looks, you got yourself a winner! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts after you've played it.

So.,.,. some of the specs (appearance) of a GS Mini. Looks like a winner

This looks like a great little guitar. I never have quite figured out why Taylor will not do a 1 3/4 nut GS Mini.

I am a small player with very small hands. I love D Jr's and GS Minis. I have a luthier in Ohio who "hot rods" them for me with complete gloss refinish, tuners, bone nut and saddle, fret markers, etc. I love them.

I was showing my custom D Jr. to a retailer the other day and he said "thats a lot of money to put into a Mexican Martin. You could buy a used D-18 for that"

This was after I had explained that my old shoulder can never even consider a full size dreadnought. I explained that if he had a brand new D-45 that he wanted to give me as a door prize it would be worthless to me. I can't play it.

He still looked at me sideways. LOL

Please post sound clips when you get this baby in your hands. Congrats.

I bet it sounds great, congrats.

I purchased an exact spec blueprint (plans) for a GS Mini from a Georgia luthier supply website and the only difference is this has a wider nut, wider string spacing (I'll have to measure when I get it) and a Mortis & Tenon neck to body joint and I had him make it a 1/2" deeper for more bass response.

He told me he strummed it when he strung it up and it was loud. So excited, will try and drop sound clips.

Thanks for all the interest and there might be a way to order one of these in the future, I'll keep ya'll posted!

You never posted a response. How is this guitar?
