Case for CA Cargo

The gigbag that originally came with my ‘08 Cargo when I’d bought it new was way too big and inadequately padded. It’s long gone.

Back then, I’d previously had a Baby Taylor that got crushed (its good quality bag couldn’t have saved it due to the high impact), so since, I’ve been using that bag (quite a snug fit) for the Cargo even for air travel as long as I can stow in the overhead bins. Until a recent trip where I had to gate check, I’d always been allowed.

I don’t have confidence in the Taylor gigbag for future gate checks which will undoubtedly happen, so I’d like to buy an adequately protective, good quality, but low profile gigbag, not a hard case.

Any ‘perfect fit’ recommendations from Cargo owners? Thanks!

I just sold a Cargo and I got it in a gig bag that I thought was made for it, but may not have been based on your description of the one that came on it when you bought it new. It couldn’t have been more similar to the cased that the Emerald X7 came in. It’s soft, but well padded, and was pretty much an exact fit, if anything it could have been a half inch or inch longer so the headstock would have a little bit of air around it - it was a little cramped. The label on it said “Access” which I think is the same brand that made a gig bag I had for a Strat for a while. I don’t recall anymore than that, but I hope that’s helpful…

Ray mentioned Access gig bags and I just skimmed through their website with the Cargo in mind. Seems their 3/4 Size Acoustic guitar gig bag may fit the bill. Interior seems perfectly sized in width and length. Depth of 4-1/2" is 13/16" deeper than Cargo, but that could be easily rectified. Access may even have "stuffing" they could include with your order.

Happy hunting,

Thanks guys! I’ve checked the link to the Access 3/4 bag and although the width and depth seem spot-on, the interior length of 38-1/2” is 3-1/2” longer than the 35” overall length of the Cargo. I’m not ruling this one out, because I suppose I can roll-up the strap and store it there (even though I rarely use it)...but I’m hoping for an even better fit, if there is one. A semi-rigid design rather than a floppy type would be preferred.

My biggest concern about the Baby Taylor bag I’ve been using is that it is such a snug fit that the tuners on the left side of the headstock in particular are vulnerable to impact which could also damage the headstock. It’s only when being forced to gate check which has only happened once, that it’s an issue.

Tom,

With what Ray said about his case being a bit cramped around the headstock, the extra length there may be advantageous..., although 3-1/2" may be more than desired. Saw this 5 month old Cargo ad on Reverb and noted his used an Access gig bag: https://reverb.com/item/76295271-com...coustics-cargo

Also saw these Cargo cases from Peavey on eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/12504155173...Bk9SR8716dHcYw

Add a neck support to one of those Peavy gig bags, and you're good to go - price is right, too!

Ahhh, that’s the ticket. Thanks so much, sf! I’m going to look into the Cargo bag.

Hi Tom

My 2016 Cargo came with an excellent TKL semi rigid gig bag. (The fabric tag sewn into the flap pocket under the headstock says ‘TKL WorldClassCase’)

It’s a great fit length and width. The front pocket will take a flat folding guitar stand or a 200 page songbook. A small music stand fits under the guitar neck (safer to keep the stand in the suitcase during travel).

Quality of materials and construction is excellent. There an inch stiff foam padding in all sides.

A TKL dealer or the TKL company can help with an equiv bag.

Perhaps post ‘wanted’ on marketplace asking if a fellow AGFer is willing to give up a seldom used bag?

Cheers

Thanks cm. I checked the TKL website and couldn’t find anything in the right size. It’s worth an inquiry with the company.

PS: Peavey Composite Acoustics provided the TKL with the guitar. The name Cargo is embroidered on the front packet. Perhaps they have a pattern and can make one for you.

Hmmm, I wonder if it’s the same one that strangerfaces included the ebay link to in his response above?
