That backstrip is rad.

Keep the pictures coming. I was very close to picking that set of wood, now I am wishing I would have :D. It is looking awesome with the backstrip.

Howard's marquetry is beautiful!

I will definitely keep the pictures coming. John had quite a bit of nice Madagascar rosewood to choose from, and I would have been equally happy with a few other sets.

No doubt.

I'm so drooling and following along faithfully with this one.

Here's a shot of the completed backstrip. Thanks to John for taking the time to take photos!

John was SCUBA diving off the coast of Maine in the mid 90s and, by crazy and freakish coincidence, discovered a wrecked ship that had been lost to history for 150 years. It was carrying a load from none other than CF Martin himself back to his European homeland. A load of Red spruce. John hired an excavation team to salvage the red spruce billets and has been drying them carefully ever since. The so called "Shipwreck spruce" is being used for the top of this OM. He also found some abalone during the same dive. And now it's in my rosette.

Wow! That's a pretty crazy story about the adi. Sounds like it would come out of the movies! I heard about moon spruce before, but never shipwreck spruce. ;) The axe is coming along beautifully. Thanks for continuing to share the pics!

Like everyone else, I just LOVE that pretty strip for the back. This guitar is very simply and yet elegantly appointed. A beauty!

CoolerKing 11-15-2015 06:38 AM

Very cool Juston! I'm sure some of you know I'm an avid diver as well.

I guess you should change the title of this thread to "Sinker Adi Spruce".

That has to be the most incredible looking abalone I've ever seen. Unreal.

On a serious note, I'm quite jealous of your back strip.

You should start looking around for some Shipwreck Brazilian down there!
