This 2017 SG-2 from Sam Guidry is a wolf dressed in wolf’s clothing. Threaded out in brick-red Brazilian Rosewood & Sunday-finest creamy Engelmann Spruce top, elegant Ebony bindings and a generously curvy C neck profile. A flair of style in the geometric rosette and miniature soundport. All wrapped up in a Calton flight case.


And behind all those good looks, a voice to make you cry. Sam Guidry has nailed the balance game: each register is equally present, and equally articulate. The bass response is open with a hint of distant thunder, but doesn’t overwhelm the voice. The treble strings are juicy and round, with great sustain. The setup is fast and slick, and when you dig in with a flatpick the SG-2 responds with a ferocious projection. Again Sam aces the balance test, since the same tune but played with fingertips also sounds rich, full, and impressively loud. Individual note definition is superb.
