Two New Carvin Acoustic Guitar Amps!

Hi Folks,

Carvin has just brought out two new acoustic guitar amps, the AG200 and AG300, to add to its acoustic guitar amp line that still includes the AG100. Carvin products are an excellent value and these amps are Made In U.S.A.

I was reading about theses a few weeks ago...bet they are really nice. Didn't get to hear one at NAMM (might have been pointless anyway with all the noise)

I get the Carvin catalog a few times a year in the mail. Always impressive gear.

Carvin World site doesn't show these. Are they multi channel?

Yes, both three channel.

The AG300 is really interesting, being a 3 way setup. I also like the fact that there is phantom power on two of the channels.

If they would offer an extension cabinet in the same configuration, it would make a great PA for a solo performer I bet. 12 inch 3 way cabinets are hard to beat for acoustic/vocal music.

Apparently, Extension Speakers: 200AGE: 2-way; Dual 6.5” LF / 1” NEO HF 300AGE: 3-way; 12” LF / 6.5” MID / 1” NEO HF are or soon will be available for both these new Carvin Acoustic Guitar Amps. The amps' manual is readable online:

http://www.carvinguitars.com/manuals/AG200300.pdf

Manual excerpt on extension speakers:

18. EXTERNAL SPEAKER OUTPUT
The AG200 and AG300 have one 1/4” extension speaker output connector which is connected in parallel with the internal 8 ohm speakers. You may connect another speaker with an impedance of 8 ohms or more. If you go below the minimum speaker load, the amp may shut off. To reset the amp, turn off the POWER switch and connect the recommended load.
For greater coverage, the 200AGE and 300AGE extention cabinets are available.

Carvin is usually a great value. I have carvin PM15A cabs that I use for anything from solo acoustic to 4 piece rock band (with subs). They've never let me down, even that time I opened the back of the explorer and they rolled like footballs 100 feet down a steep driveway.

These amps look very cool.

I'm a big Carvin guy. My first tube amp was a 100W combo. I have an awesome Vintage 16, whih is my best gear bang for the buck. I also have an old Quad X pre amp and a newer 100W EL34 power amp. I have a DC135 guitar and it's great. This is the next Carvin gear I'll buy http://www.carvinguitars.com/products/S400D

I had a Carvin DC150 electric and it was sweet! Carvin is Paul Reed Smith quality for a fraction of the price!

The StageMate looks like a nice piece of portable PA gear with its battery and wall power but it looks like they've discontinued this product.

I own the MB12 bass version of the AG300 and I'll attest to the fact that it's an excellent product, especially for the money - I'm thinking in terms of adding an AG300E when they become available, to make a 250W hi-def bass rig...

Thanks for the heads-up, SpruceTop!

I also have a DC150 (from 1984)… solid maple! Doesn't get played at all, since I don't play electric guitar these days.

But I do get a lot of use out of a Carvin LB40 bass from 2000 - koa body with maple neck and gorgeous flamed koa top, black hardware, ebony board, no fret markers. The build quality is impeccable… looks like it cost at least twice what it did.

I don't have much experience with their electronics, but if they're half as good as the instruments, they should be a great value.

Oh, and I just noticed that Carvin gives you a wide choice of colors for their amps: black, white, red, navy, "country & western" (faux tooled leather), snakeskin, tweed, and bubblegum pink!

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a Carvin AG300... maybe in tweed or black. Anyone buy or demo one yet, and if so, what were your thoughts?

I borrowed a friends very old Carvin AG100 that he said he bought back in the late 70's or early 80's and it worked and sounded great, so I figure the 300 will be even better, plus it can handle the real low 12 string tunings I use, and a bass guitar or keyboard when I need them. I also like the ability to put it on a PA stand.

The only downside I see from from AG100D to the AG200/300 is that the latter doesn't have a graphic EQ but I could easily add a MXR 6 band EQ in the effects loop if need be.

Dead on right, I have the PM12 cabs and Carvin 6 channel mixer, and I've been very happy with their gear.

I got the AG 200, (thanks to Sprucetop, thank you!) and I am loving it.
The band does too.

GRIMland 03-07-2014 09:41 PM

I was thinking about the AG200 as well, but didn't know if the speaker frequency range would be able to handle bass guitar.

How does your amp handle the low end?
