Gypsy guitars do that as well Juston (10th fret). I think it is a banjo carryover...

As Bob has pointed out, Maccaferri did the same and the pattern likely derives from its use on banjos. |
Man, that is a schweeet looking guitar. Headstock inlay is emaculate! You sir are a lucky man.

Very nice, Juston.

Beautiful :)

Looking good!

Did the Larson Bros ever build guitars with Koa? Just curious. That New Era guitar looks spectacular.
|
Oh yeah! The Koa has made itself known now!!!
|
Good Lord!!!!
First other wordly fiddle back mahogany, now super curly koa? I'm speechless. You will not find finer looking koa than whatcha' got. Looking forward to more pics as it comes together!!! |
Honestly, that koa is completely and totally ridiculous

I don’t know how I missed this thread before, but that is a lovely guitar. Congratulations

My Froggy Bottom is Koa bodied with a spruce top and it’s a wonderful combination. The back is slightly arched, similar to the Larsons, but Michael doesn’t call it built under tension.
I’m looking forward to hearing how your New Era turns out. If anyone can capture the Larson magic it’s Tony. |
