Essential Tools for a basic care and maintainance kit
Hey all,
I'm going to make a "tool kit" for myself soon for basic care and maintainance for my guitars. My question is what would be some essential tools needed for such a kit? Basically I'm talking baout changing strings, cleaning, the finish, basic tools for basic easy repairs, etc. Thanks guys, Mike |
Hey Mike. I'm sure there are those more qualified than me to answer this, but my basic kit consists of:
truss rod wrench hex wrench for tuner machine nut small philip's head screw driver (you can get it in a glasses repair kit) string winder lint free clothes (or old, clean t-shirts) mineral oil or lemon oil (for fretboard) 0000 steel wool to use on fretboard some type of body cleaner/polish...depends on what the local store has strong epoxy (I use it if I ever have the covering on my case come loose or get torn so the plywood isn't exposed to weather. Could also use tape) The other repairs I've done on my guitar didn't involve much more. Some sand paper to shape and fit a new bone saddle, etc. Hope this helps. |
I believe you can find an inexpensive kit that is already put together in a zippered pouch at Sweetwater or Musician's Friend.

Might consider one of these: http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Sp...ench_Rest.html
Actually check out the Stew MAc site...Tools section. All kinds of cool stocking stuffers. |
I would include an accurate 4" ruler graduated in 32nds and 64ths.
