What's your studio/recording space like?

My man-cave music room.

What are your goals for recording your acoustic music?

To achieve the best possible results I can as an avocational guitarist working in a home studio.

What kind of music do you like to play/record?

Solo instrumentals on guitar and uke.

Is your studio space treated? How?

Wood floor, small circle (6' or so) that consist of 6 homemade 4' x 2" x 3" bass traps/acoustic panels, 2' x 2' trap on ceiling right above recording seat.

What's in your mic locker?

2 Shure KSM 137 SDC
1 Shure Beta 57 Dynamic
1 Audix SCX 25 (soon to arrive)

Computer-based or standalone recorder?

MacBook w/ GarageBand

Recorder? DAW? Interface? Preamp? FX? Plug-in's? Ext. HD's for storage? Monitors? Headphones? Power amp? Controller/mixer or completely ITB? Cables? Mic stands? etc. Whatever you use.

Apogee Duet 2, Shure SRH 440 headphones, Mogami cables

Favorite mic pattern/placement for recording acoustic guitar?

Like them all, although probably Spaced Pair the best

New gear you have your eye on?

Apogee Quad would be cool! Then I could have mics all over the place. Love to have some better mics as well: Gefall, Neumann, Schoeps

How has home recording evolved for you?

I've gotten very interested in doing the best recording I can in my home studio. Its caused me to learn much more about equipment and recording techniques/processes, and also has prompted me to do a lot of experimenting to see what works best. Fran and others here have been a huge help in improving my knowledge base, and I'm very grateful to have access to such expertise.

The Videos on this website I did the Boom Work, Sound Recording and After processing on the Voiceovers , The Background music and After Voiceovers was added by the Videographer .

Location recording , and After processing involves Gathering the Sound , then Removing all the Extemporaneous noise like AC Units , Electrical , anything that gets in the way of the dialouge .

Then Wave Agent to retag the files with proper Video Timing and Frame rate info .

But I am jealous of Dougs Shoeps .......

I have to get some Peluso mics

What's your studio/recording space like?

Spare bedroom, smallish but I record and edit with DAW there, and also use a stand-alone recorder for different room locations or remote recording.

What are your goals for recording your acoustic music?

I like the creative process and have done a few CD projects for other bands and also a few CD projects for acoustic bands I’m playing with. I pen a bunch of my own stuff and like to record versions so I can remember them later. I’m working on an entire concept project based on an “interesting” portion of my Dad’s life in rural West Virginia. I’ll most likely distribute it openly, I find the whole concept of marketing rather distasteful. It’s almost as if music took a turn for the worse as soon as someone (Edison?) figured out a way to record and market it. Recording is the best example of the two-edged sward that I can think of.

What kind of music do you like to play/record?

Acoustic- based, usually including guitar, mando family, bass , and banjo.

Is your studio space treated? How?

It has lots of angles and is fairly dead due to carpeting and beds.

What's in your mic locker?

Consumer stuff. Rode LDCs and MDCs, Avantone SDCs, AKG C-1000, SM-57, MXL LDC, a few others.

Computer-based or standalone recorder?

Both. Depends on why, where, who, and what.

Recorder? DAW? Interface? Preamp? FX? Plug-in's? Ext. HD's for storage? Monitors? Headphones? Power amp? Controller/mixer or completely ITB? Cables? Mic stands? etc. Whatever you use.

Zoom R24, Mackie Onyx Blackjack, Art Tube pres, Reaper on PC, Event 20/20 monitors, Beyerdynamic DT-770 and Sennheiser HD-280 Pro headphones, various accessories of both store-bought and homebrewed nature.

Favorite mic pattern/placement for recording acoustic guitar?

Normally single point SDC, but I’m playing with spaced pair SDCs for acoustic guitar.

New gear you have your eye on?

I try to keep gear lust under control, I love the concept of doing the best with as little as possible.

How has home recording evolved for you?

I started with a 3” reel to reel about 50 years ago! I’m still working on it…all the changing specifics can be seen at:

I'm embarrassed to describe my setup after seeing all the nice setups here...

What's your studio/recording space like?

Just a regular living room or home/office room depending on what's available when I want to record.

What are your goals for recording your acoustic music?

To share with friends and family. Realize the vision I have for my songs that I can't communicate as a solo act.

What kind of music do you like to play/record?

Singer/songwriter originals. A few covers.

Is your studio space treated? How?

No.

What's in your mic locker?

MXL 990.

Computer-based or standalone recorder?

Computer.

Recorder? DAW? Interface? Preamp? FX? Plug-in's? Ext. HD's for storage? Monitors? Headphones? Power amp? Controller/mixer or completely ITB? Cables? Mic stands? etc. Whatever you use.

Mbox 2 Mini plugged into my MacBook Pro using GarageBand. This weekend I replaced the Mbox 2 Mini with a PreSonus AudioBox USB 2x2. Backup everything to portable hard drive and USB flash drive. Headphones are Apple EarPods. XLR cable for the mic, Musician's Gear tripod mic stand with telescoping boom.

Favorite mic pattern/placement for recording acoustic guitar?

4-5 inches from the 12th fret rotated 45 degress toward the sound hole.

New gear you have your eye on?

None at the moment.

How has home recording evolved for you?

Started about 4 years ago. My recordings started off very simple with a single vocal track and single guitar track. Over the years I've gotten much more proficient with GarageBand, adding complexity and detail to my songs, and now each song has multiple vocal and guitar tracks - and sometimes strings - in the final mix.

The SoundCloud link in my signature has a bunch of stuff I've recorded with this setup if anyone is inclined to check it out.

What's your studio/recording space like?

Very small back bedroom!

What are your goals for recording your acoustic music?

Just to keep having fun. That's the only reason I do it.

What kind of music do you like to play/record?

I tend to play folk, country, country/blues and even pop. Whatever I hear that makes me think "I want to do that!"

Is your studio space treated? How?

No, if anything I have made it worse by covering the walls with acoustic instruments such as banjos that resonate when I'm playing in there.

What's in your mic locker?

One single Audio-Technica at2035 condenser mic with pop screen, spider mount and boom mic stand.

Computer-based or standalone recorder?

Sold my Gibson Chet Atkins SST and used the money to buy a 2014 27" iMac top spec and upped the RAM to 32GB. This has a Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 plugged into it
With line 1 for the Mic and Line 2 going into my K&K pure mini transducer pickup I have in my baby Taylor. Line 2 is pure guitar, line 1 is a blend of guitar and vocals.
This runs into Reaper and the only things I use are slight compression and the aether reverb. Playback and monitor through AKG K242 HD studio headphones. The headphones are great!

Favorite mic pattern/placement for recording acoustic guitar?

Don't have one, just have the mic placed above the soundhold near my head.

New gear you have your eye on?

A vocal booth for when noisy friends come to record!

How has home recording evolved for you?

Only had this setup for 2 months, so now I'm getting used to a Mac instead of a PC and using a DAW.

Perhaps you may not want the world to know where they can find multi thousands of dollars of goods. ;)

just like the time, despite your excitement with your guitar collection -- you stop listing them in your signature ;)

Perfectly understandable per se . It does seem though that the "goods" might be hard to locate, with 1 post on a new user name and no location listed, but I spose anything is possible. ;)

I never did list mine, not sure why really, just never actually occurred to me to list them. I am quite fond of em' though.

I was just curious how you liked the MP2 compared to the 737 ?
