Somehow it's just not right to be almost 70, but feel inside mentally like you are in your 20's or 30's.

This past spring my 37 year old son and I (I’m 61) did a three day hike on the Appalachian Trail. Days 1 and 2 were 16 miles each, and we finished with a “short” 8 mile third day.

Thirty years ago I could do 16 mile days for a few weeks. Now - lets just say I was sure glad day three was an eight miler!

I sure ain’t what I used to be, but I never seem to realize it until I’ve reached the point of no return!

We are in Ohio. You should have stopped by here and gone home with a guitar for her. :)

Like the song says "I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I used to be" or some thing like that.... 72 going on 31 (according to quiz).

Years ago, I was working with a producer who was 27 or 28 years old and he was saying how much he dreaded turning 30 and feeling old. I told him, "Here's the secret. You never really feel old. You just look in the mirror and know it's true." Recently he turned 45 and I got to remind him of our conversation way back when.

113 when I wake up in the morning...

I am 46. 66 pounds ago I felt like I was 112. Never felt better in 20 years. That was the equivalent of carrying a 5 gallon pail of sheetrock mud (joint compound) everywhere I went, up and down stairs, riding a bike... I look far better than I did at 36 and lighter than I was at about 30.

A while back someone posted a link to a life expectancy calculator. I remember feeling miserable about every question I answered - I thought that 50 would be a stretch. When I completed the questions, I was shocked to find out my computed life expectancy is - 99! Maybe, just maybe, there is hope for me...

How ironic . At 61 , digging fence post holes and filling them again is something that I have serious experience with .
Anyway , I keep hearing people telling me that I need to slow down and act my age . It's not my fault that they can't keep up .
As Groucho Marx once said , " You're only as old as who you are feeling . "
Until , I feel the telltale signs of deterioration , I will respectfully leave all of you to your meds .

I have a friend the broke his hip while playing volleyball at 83 .
The people in his rehab apparently kept asking him and his wife what an 83 year old man was doing playing volleyball .
As I told Paula , his wife , because he can and because he may not be able to at 84 . What , exactly , could anyone be waiting for ?
Never stop moving and enjoy the fact that you still can . Embrace the day . :)

Now 68 had some fairly serious health issues about 4 years ago , but have recovered nicely. I am very active but at a bit slower pace. Still scuba, snow ski cross country and alpine, hike about a mile a day and bicycle about 18 miles 3 days a week here at 8000 ft.

I can tell I definitely do not have the strength or endurance I used to, and my lower back, rt. shoulder and knees periodically remind I am not 35.
But mentally the linked test said I am 33 so I guess I must think and act immature ;)

Apparently, at 65, I am really 30. Tell that to my body.

This thread makes me laugh inside when I think of the last time I got to spend time with my mother and her older sister. On the outside they are 78 and 81 but the way they talk to and about each other it's like they're still 5 and 8 years old!

As for me, I turn 50 next year and I'm feeling the change in the weather in my bones. Ugh. I need to take my back pill. When did I get old? Will it get better? Now I know why zombies get such a bad rap.

My minds eye holds on to eighteen I feel because that was my age just before the weight of life began to accumulate on my soul. At 61 I am a lucky, happy man. At eighteen, the world was my oyster and everything was still so new. What did Melloncamp say "hold on to sixteen as long as you can, changes come around real soon make us women and men"

I am 66, went to Senior Day at the local theater to see "Bohemian Rhapsody". I was surprised at how crowded the theater was with "old" people wanting to see Queen and then realized we are were all aging rockers. The movie was excellent by the way. Not one person got up to leave until the end credits were completely through.

I am 69 as of June 22. I think like I am about 23. I see myself in my minds eye as about 51 as that is the last time I thought I looked younger than my age. Now, ...... I am starting to look my age! I am vain enough to just hate looking in the mirror. Maybe it is just human nature to visualize oneself as at a time when we "looked good, and felt good" But as Billy Crystal used to say when he played Fernando Llamas (sp?) on SNL way back, "It is better to look good, than to feel good". My philosophy for getting along at the age I am now. But also as Danny Gokey said in his song, my best days are ahead of me. And that is the real philosophy that I prefer to live by, today is great, and tomorrow will be even greater!
