Martin style slot head

I'm going to give a try at posting images of a Martin style 00 12 fret slothead I just finished building.

The pictures I see are mere thumbs of the images you might have posted.

Imbler 03-14-2018 02:20 PM

Bruce, if you click on the thumbnail you are interested in seeing, it gives the full image (at least for me).

Thanks for the feedback, I'll play around and see if I can get them to come out full size without needing to click on the thumbnails.
Mike

PS. Got it to work now - thanks for the feedback Bruce!

Let's see:
Short scale, (24.9)
Scalloped bracing
Carpathian Spruce Top
Ebony headplate and end wedge with MOP inlays
East Indian Rosewood back and sides,
Engelmann spruce bracing top and back
Ebony fret board
Nicola 80/20 strings
Waverly tuners
East Indian Rosewood pyramid bridge

I think that is everything!

Mahogany or Spanish Cedar neck? :)

I'm building an EIR/Carp 00 style 14 fret right now incidentally, with a S Cedar neck. Not sure if I am going to do a slot head yet or not.

good catch! I knew I was forgetting something. Yes it is a Spanish Cedar neck. Nice and light and seems to balance well to compensate for the truss rod.

Which I also forgot. It is a Mark Blanchard double acting truss rod. They are really nice. Silver soldered so there is no weld to crack, and different threads at each end for a gear reduction effect.

Good luck with your build. I think the EIR/Carpathian Spruce turned out to be a good combination sound wise.

I love Spanish Cedar necks if for anything the smell it gives off when you work it.

Oh, yes. Love the smell, and it carves so easily. Supposedly, the shavings are used to make a tea in Brazil, but I haven't tried that yet,

The top was a little stiff when first strung up, but it is opening up pretty nicely and sounds good to me.
To be honest, though, this is literally the first acoustic I've played so my ears probably aren't refined (I play classical).
I'll give it a little while to play in, then post a sound clip for the more experienced to weigh in on!
