New Build: Muleskinner 15" Dreadnought Adirondack/Cuban Mahogany
Hi All,
I'm excited to share a guitar build by the talented luthier Andy Mueller of Muleskinner Instruments! I've always enjoyed the builds posted on this forum and looked forward to the day I might have one to share, too. I discovered Muleskinner from a post on the mandolin cafe and contacted Andy to see if he was interested in building a 15" Dreadnought. I love my J45 but I wanted something smaller/more comfortable (I'm 5'7") and am not a fan of the photo's of me playing it. It looks like I'm "playing my dad's guitar". While Andy primarily builds mandolins at Muleskinner he will occasionally build guitars, too. It turned out that he had already been interested in building a smaller dreadnought and my inquiry was perfect timing. Today I received the good news that he was starting on my guitar this afternoon! Here are the specs: Small dreadnought body shape, 15" lower bout width. Cuban Mahogany back and sides Adirondack Spruce top Ebony bridge and fingerboard Ebony peghead overlay (on bound solid headstock) MOP headstock logo and small fingerboard dots (at 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th, and 15th frets) 25" scale length 1 3/4" nut, 2 1/4" spacing at bridge BWB purflings with maple in place of white fiber Wood inlay rosette Curly maple bindings and heelcap Sunburst top Nickel Waverly tuning machines K&K pure mini pickup Pic of the Cuban Mohogany: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...d985971b_c.jpg20201023_163030 by Sean Rosenthal, on Flickr |
Congratulations on the new build! And by a builder that is new to me at least. I just visited the Muleskinner website for the first time, and I have to say Andy certainly makes some fine looking instruments.
Looking forward to more posts as you progress. |
I'm not familiar with Andy Mueller, but sounds like you've made a good match. I'm a big fan of Cuban Mahogany; should work well for the size of your guitar.

Had a chance to buy a Cuban Mahogany Charis dread that I still kick myself for passing up. Looking forward to watching this thread.
