Default The making of a Doerr guitar

Just got pics from Tom Doerr of the guitar he is building for me - a Malaysian blackwood cutaway guitar with a sinker redwood top. It will be a stunner when completed.

Will update with more pics as I get them.

You're a lucky guy Davidyan! I can't imagine the excitement in getting pics and progress updates on a guitar that someone is building especially for me. And from the look of your pics it's gonna be a stunner!

Hi David...
Just a quick note...
If you will go to your photobucket files and reduce the largest ones by 50% (the edit button above each picture), then they will fit without us having to scroll. It not only causes us to have to scroll the pics, but the text as well because it ''widens'' the entire page of posts.

thanks...

That guitar looks great, and I'll bet it will sound even better. Hopefully one day I'll have photos of my guitar in progress to share.

Way to go David....that was fast...Tom did a really good job of joining and matching the backs very well...

Paired with that rare sinker redwood with the Malaysian Blackwood...I've got a feeling that its going to be one sweet sounding guitar....

Congrats and do keep us updated ....

Thanks for all your kind responses. Here are more pics of my Malaysian Blackwood/Sinker Redwood Doerr guitar.

Here you see the great piece of sinker redwood picked out by Tom for me.

I opted for a simple abalone rosette.

And a great looking headstock!... thanks Tom.

Hey David, I love your headplate. It really ties in neatly.
I had a hard time choosing my headplate but thanks to Tom's advice, it was finally decided.

Any idea what a sinker redwood/MB will sound like?

Congrats! I am having a guitar made by Simon Fay that is a Claro Walnut/ with sinker redwood, it looks fantastic so far. Simon is in the middle of applying the french polish as we speak. The sinker redwood has awsome tap tones I cant wait to hear my guitar! I know how you feel, getting the updates.

Here is the link to my luthiers website if anyone is interested.

Hi C.S.

Mine may be one of the very few MB/sinker guitars ever made. It would be a really unique creation. I'm not even sure if Tom knows exactly wat it would sound like until he strings it up, but from the tap tone of the sinker, he's sure it would sound great. From Tom's experience, sinker redwood keeps sounding better over time. I'm sure he can coax the best possible tone out of this wood combination.

Tom really put a lot of effort into the MB headplate to get it bookmatched.
