Question Biggest One-Hit Wonder?

I was having a conversation about one-hit wonders today which got me thinking....what do you all think is the biggest one-hit wonder of all time?

When I think one-hit wonder, I can't help but remember Chumbawumba's "Tubthumping." How big did that song get..??? Amazing. Haven't heard much about them ever since.

What other one-hit wonders have there been?

Macarena. That has to be the biggest one hit wonder of all time.

Just off the top of my head:

Macarena
Spirit in the Sky
Seasons in the Sun
Funkytown
Mickey

Many, many, many others....... Most of them are REALLY bad songs.

"Pop Muzik" by M (the late Robin Scott)
"Reach Out in the Darkness" by Friend & Lover (half of whom went on to a respectable career as folksinger-songwriter Jim Post)

One of the local shows here did a feature on the writer of "Spirit in the Sky" a couple years ago. He's been living off the royalties of that one single song ever since it came out. Not opulently, but comfortably. Pretty good deal, I say!

I think being a one-hit wonder is underrated. That's one hit more than most other musicians will ever have.

Norman Greenbaum was not a "1 hit wonder" with "Spirit In The Sky." The Walden, Mass born young lad had a HUGE follow up with "Canned Ham." lol

Besides the some local 1-hit-wonders, I liked "Green Tamborine" by The Lemon Pipers. I was with a group at the time that turned down recording that song because we thought it was too "dope-y." Oh well...

Good thread! Brings back a lot of memories. Of course, just about every new song on the radio nowadays is a 1-hit-wonder. I wonder how it became a hit????

Last Kiss by J Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers was the number one song for 1964

Judy in Disguise With Glasses by John Fred and his Playboy Band knocked the Beatles' Hey Jude out of the number one spot

Flashdance by Irene Cara was fairly huge

You Light Up My Life by Debbie Boone

I would love to be a one hit wonder.

I would also like to find myslef on the cover of The National Enquirer linked to Ashley Judd in some bizarre love triangle story that is completely false.
