Default Circa 000-12, Maple, Sick

John just completed this guitar and is sending it to Schoenberg, a shop in my neck of the woods. I thought it was awesome enough to merit some photos on the board.

From John:

"2-3/8 bridge, 1-13/16 nut. Super silky perfect German top. Loud and dry. Sounds very vintage already. Circa Maple guitars are known for a very sweet (but lively) treble. This has got it, but it has a dryness in the mids which usually doesn't develop in these for a few years. I love it. I wish I had another one on order!"

Very nice indeed! Perfect appointments, clean work, classic looks.
I am especially fond of the peghead with those tuners. Very retro. Just excellent

Wait a minute here, is "sick" supposed to mean cool? I don't get it
If that's the case, this guitar is terminally ill...!

Sick = cool in this case. Or perhaps "boss."

Or, John Slobod's building skills make me "sick." It makes me feel "sick" that I know I will have to go play this guitar at Schoenberg.

This is a surprise to read as I had you pegged as a maximalist rather than minimalist based on the fancy fingerboard work I've seen on your guitarsn.

He's got one or two that are less pearl more wood!

Love John's work, looking forward to my project with him!

I fancy all guitars that look, play and sound good.

For the record I only own one guitar (and a mando) with "way too much pearl". The other ones range from very plain to reasonably blingy...

There are a few notable times where I sit down with a guitar and know instantly that it is the one for me. I remember when it happened with my Schoenberg 000-12. I just spent about an hour and a half with this Circa at Schoenberg. It is one of those guitars. It's extremely light, for one, and absolutely rumbles when you play it. It already sounds broken in, and everyone in the shop was impressed with the bigness of the bass and the overall balance of the guitar. It's the first maple guitar I've fallen head over heels for.

It has plenty of volume. A hair shy of my OM, but with more bass. It's even and seeet in all registers. It's delicate when it needs to be. It's bold when you dig in. It makes the whole room shake. Wonderful mid range with plenty of punch and a sweet top end that is not overly bright. There is no ice pick here.

A perfect 10, I would say. If I weren't already in John's queue for a maple 000-12, I would have bought it on the spot. No kidding. John said it would be a close cousin of my OM. It is when it comes to the character of the response and volume. But it's a different beast being a 000-12 (and maple). Totally floored. Another amazing Circa. John has really found "it."

I thought some new photos from Schoenberg would be a good opportunity to bump this thread. This is, in my opinion, one of the best guitars that has ever come through their shop. If John weren't building one for me, I would be playing it right now rather than posting about it. Ha ha. This guitar is complete perfection on every level. Playability. Tone (tone, and tone, and more tone). And looks. Light as a feather. Well balanced. Shakes the whole store.
