Default New Claxton build

Just saw this astonishing build being undertaken by master builder Ed Claxton.

This might even turn "Grit" Laskin's head.

There are other photos at the link.

Ed's guitars are phenomenal. I like to call him the "human CNC machine", his work is so precise. He's stepping outside his norm on this build from an aesthetic standpoint and I look forward to following the build. Someone will be very happy.

Stunning woods, inlay, and execution--really can't wait to see the finished product!

I have a Claxtom EMC, and as a result Ed and I have become digital friends. He sent me a picture of this guitar in one of his recent e-mails. Apparently the inlay was done by Jimmi Wingert, and very well done at that. Ed said the top is LS Redwood, and it's a very unusual Jumbo body. Should be a monster.

That's beautiful. I saw some of Jimmi's work in progress at the shop this past weekend and there's some glorious stuff waiting to be put onto a guitar.

Here's some photos of one of my favourite Claxtons.

Wow--that looks incredible, Trevor. Love the woods, the simple detailing, and the continuous flow of the neck into the cutaway. Really beautiful...

Jimmi W on a Claxton...that is a fantastic combination. Jimmi did a (much simpler!) inlay on one of my guitars 8 years ago and I still enjoy it every time I play.

Thanks for sharing.

That explains a lot, as it looks like her work. Beautiful job!

Default Ed Claxton is one of the BEST out there...

Beautiful Guitar!!....Ed has been talking about it for awhile as well as the beautiful inlay by J.Wingert. This looks to be a Fantastic blending of Ed's skill and magical touch in guitar building and Jimmi's wonderful aesthetic sensibility....IMO...You can look far and wide and find many really good luthiers out there. A few of them are Great; at the top of their game.. When you see a guitar like this and have played Ed's guitars, you can just sense that this guitar will be a winner....noteworthy in the guitar world, both now and in the future. You can pay more, you can pay less, but his guitars are consistently one of the best values and best sounding instruments you can buy at any price. Whoever is getting this one, is really lucky.....Plus, Ed is one of the absolute BEST to work with in having a custom build.

Emphatically my experience.

The few I have played have been exceptionally refined and balanced instruments. Some of the very best guitars I have had in my hands.

Not cheap but yes, you can easily pay more. However, I don't think doing so buys you a better guitar. Different, yes. Better, no. Right up there with Somogyi, Traugott and the ilk IMHO.

If I was still playing as much steel-string as I was a few years ago, I would have one.

Cheers,
Steve

I was down at Ed's shop a few weeks ago as he finished the Malabar, and got to play it. Absolutely stunning. If it wasn't already spoken for, I'd have grabbed it on the spot. The big body guitar is still under construction, but it looks amazing. Ed's first guitar of this size, I believe. I usually stay away from inlay, but Jimmi Wingert's creation here is so tasteful and artistic.

For those who don't realize the magic in Ed's hands, here's what happened why I was there :-) I was sitting playing the Maple Malabar, and Ed stepped out of his workshop. I turned my head and saw a little wild bird jumping onto Ed's arm. I grabbed my phone and video'd this:

The guitar mentioned by the OP in this thread was completed a few weeks ago, and Ed called to ask if I'd like to record a tune for his web site on it. I jumped at the chance to check the guitar out, of course, and it's a stunning instrument in all ways. I got to spend a few days with it, and like many great guitars, it quickly inspired a tune, which I recorded for Ed. The guitar recorded just phenomenally. I don't think Ed has posted updated photos, but the recording is posted.

You can hear the tune on Ed's site, scroll thru the play list that comes up on the home page until you find "Rosie's Last Dance":

http://www.claxtonguitars.com/index.php

The song is dedicated to Ed's long time shop mate, the Golden Retriever, Rosie (see in the video snippet I posted above), who passed away while Ed was finishing this guitar.

Beautiful piece, Doug -- elegantly played and superbly recorded as always.
