Joe,

Is yours being built now? You didn't mention that in the other post I unintentionally hijacked!! That wood looks incredible, and it looks like Ray does some really fantastic and different things. This'll be another build I want to see a whole lot more of! Best of luck with it!!

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Mine is currently being built (that other thread). I have decided not to go with ziricote.

Ah...I got it now. Been a long day. So you traded in the highly figured Ziricote for the Braz. The BRW looks plain in comoarison, but I've heard that more often the less figured BRW sounds better than the figured stuff. And I don't mean "plain" in a bad way; it looks sumptuous, like melted chocolate. Either way, I bet it's going to be gorgeous.

Whe n it comes time to select the woods for mine, would you mind if asked your opinion? The custom realm is so new to me, and I can use the assit.

Thanks,
Mike

I don't think experience with custom guitars matters as much as experience with guitars in general. I've got three custom builds in the works right now but in reality I have yet to play one myself. That being said, I've played enough guitars to have some reasonably realistic expectations.

I would take any claims of this type of BRW sounding like this or that type of BRW being more that with a grain of salt. I don't think any one builder has made enough identical BRW guitars in their lifetime -- and kept them around for direct comparison -- to make such authoritative claims.

I know the general impact of rosewood, mahogany and maple -- and from there I can pretty much anticipate how most of the exotic woods will sound. There are differences that can be appreciated of course -- but it's by no means night and day.

All of this to say that I choose wood on the basis of their looks and prestige. Sonically, rosewood is rosewood...

Feel free to PM anytime with questions.
