Cool Mardan and Gig

Hey all, I'm new to the website...and new to guitars in general. I'm not very good yet, but I know that will come in time. I need some help finding information, as much info that the web has, i'm stunned to find myself coming up empty. My father handed down his acoustic to me, and I just love it...my mother bought it for him several years ago, but nobody knows anything about it. It's called a Mardan, and it still has the serial number visible, i'm just not around it right now. I would really like to get some information on it, not necessrily to sell it. I went out garage sale-ing today and I ran across another acoustic...it's in rough shape, but I want to give it some TLC. It's called a Gig..again no information...but I also have the serial number for it. If anyone can help a lady out, I would appreciate it. I would love to get into the history of music, and guitars...i'm a little upset that I waited this long to get into it, but life happens Thanks for your help and consideration!

Welcome to the AGF, Jamie, and to the wonderful world of music making with an acoustic guitar. Glad to have you aboard! Don't worry about not being really good at it yet - most of us would probably fall into that category, though our definitions of "good" might vary a bit.

I'm not familiar with either Mardan or Gig guitars, but we have members who are as knowledgeable as anyone on the planet, and they like nothing more than helping folks. You may have to be a little patient, though. It's been rumored that a few of us have actual lives away from the AGF, though I'm not sure they've been give permission for that.

I'm sure someone will come along before long and point you in the right directions. Meanwhile, feel free to join in the conversation. You don't have to earn the right to be respected here.

Is it like this?

http://www.elderly.com/items/20U-9976.htm

Appears to have been a brand made in Asia and marketed by Conn.

I know of an MIJ brand called Nardan guitars...they made some solid wood stuff and some plywood guitars. Have seen GIG guitars on line over here too but have no experience with either maker.
