I don't have enough background to know the true answer to this question but I've always thought that Richie Sambora's solos in "Dry County" were pretty epic.

I would replace Steely Dan's "Kid Charelemagne" with "Do It Again". Other than that, that's arguably the perfect list...though any one of Gilmour's solos on "Dogs" could be somewhere in the Top 10.

This is easy for me...

1) Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
2) Eruption - Van Halen
3) Hotel California - Eagles
4) Money - Pink Floyd
5) While My Guitar Gently Weeps - Beatles

If you haven't got room for Steely Dan's Reelin' in the Years, Jethro Tull's Aqualung, Allman Bros.' Jessica and Lynyrd Skynyrd's Freebird, your list is probably too short.

Dire Straits would be on my list. Knofler's Sultans of Swing or Money for Nothing are a couple of my favorites.

Denny Diaz - Steely Dan - Boddisahtva (sp) Live or Elliot Randall Reelin' in the Years
Paul McCartney - The Beatles - Taxman
Ry Cooder - The Very Thing That Makes You Rich
Dicky Betts - The Allman Bros - Jessica
Jeff Beck - Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop - Where Were You

Of course, a list like this is silly in many ways. Top 5? These are among the many, many solos that I find inspiring.

Worry less about the guitars you want. Play the guitar you have more.
The answer will come, and it will not be what you expect.

A guitar is a tool, and a friend. But it is not the answer.

It is the beginning.

See what I mean? Knopfler is the king - he's never off.

"Crossroads" would have to receive at least an Honorable Mention
The Allmans' "Black Hearted Woman" is one of my favorites, too
Jimmy Page rips on "Good Times, Bad Times"
Pat Metheny's "Offramp" (among countless others)
Jim McGuinn (pre "Roger") on "Eight Miles High"
