My favorites in that price range are two that I own; a Seagull S6 Cedar and Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-500M. Definitely worth looking into. Nice guitars each but quite different in terms of ergonomics, tone, and construction.

Taylor 110. I have one and it sounds great. I also just got a Takamine EG440SC. Also sounds good, I haven't had the chance to plug it in yet though.

I would like to add that we can all throw names out to you. But unless you go out to a store and play these guitars, it means nothing. Everyone has their own preference to the sound a guitar puts out. So get out, play as many guitars as you can sub-$500. When you find the right one, you'll know.

Silver Creek guitars from Musicians Friend are getting rave reviews.
These are all solid wood guitars
I haven't played one but I see a lot of great reports from owners of them.

You can find a gently used Taylor 100 or 200 series for under $500.

Correct me if I'm wrong. That guitar he's playing is not what we're seeing on QVC. I wonder why that is?

Oh, and another big shout out for Seagull. I'm a big fan of them for the money.

"Professional-level dreadnaught acoustic guitar with solid Engleman spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides. Includes hard shell case."

"To our knowledge this is the least expensive professional grade guitar comparable to our competition at up to three times the price."
