Smile L.R. Baggs Amplifier Renamed and Shipping

The amp will no longer go by the name "Core 1" to avoid confusion with any music-related companies or products with a similar name.

It will now be called the Acoustic Reference Amplifier - "A-REF" for short.

L.R. Baggs has begun shipping them today.

Thanks for the information. I think LR Baggs could have come up with a better name, however.

We should come up with a better name and submit it to LR Baggs while there is still time to change it. What would have been a better name?

I am no marketing genius but LR Baggs already has a pretty good reputation for acoustic pickups....

Why not just call it LR Baggs Acoustic (60/100/125) Amp?

Being acquainted with Balanced Mode Radiator technology, I'm interested in trying it no matter how much it costs. Whether the amplifier is worth its price is another question.

I actually had the opportunity to try one in July of last year with my Taylor NS72ce-LTD. Unfortunately, the room was so noisy I couldn't make any kind of determination as to its performance. The noise included other guitars playing through several conventional amplifiers.

I talked with my local music shop guy today and asked him to order one of these new amps. He said since I was the second person who had mentioned it he would call and get one coming. So at least I'll be able to plug the Martin in and take a test run before buying one. If I like the amp I'll buy the one he ordered.

I'm making arrangements to audition the Baggs ARA soon. A few of us here in Portland will get together on evening, hopefully at Artichoke Music's backstage, to check it out. I plan to have available a Schertler Unico, Bose L1, Ultrasound 200 and my Daedalus rig for comparisons.
