Default NGD Martin DRSGT

I recently acquired a Martin DRSGT and I must say I'm very impressed. A used one popped up on the local classifieds for a good price and I jumped on it. Needless to say I'm glad I did.

Now first I must confess I'm a Taylor guy. My other acoustics are a GS mini and an 814ce. The 814 will always be my number one but I was surprised how close it could come to it.

I always wanted to add a dread to my collection for the nice full bass sound and when it comes to dreads to me it just makes sense to consider a Martin, the original dreadnought maker.

I'm really impressed with the sound. I put some new strings on it and I am super impressed. For playability I give the edge to my more expensive Taylor, but the mexi Martin is no slouch in its own right.

Here's an obligatory photo. Btw I'm still a Taylor guy but I might need to pick up a Martin t shirt.

Congrats on your new Dred. Road Series guitars are one of Martin's best kept secrets. All solid woods (except Fretboard & bridge) and a great price.

Isn't everyone a 'Taylor person' until they play a Martin?

Thanks Tom

I wasn't sure how I felt about the richlite, but it all honesty it looks good and feels great under the fingers. Reminds me a lot of my Taylor's ebony. (And no streaking!)

I was a Taylor person; until I owned one [emoji12]. It was a Grand Symphony from the second year in production. Taylors play so great (like a well setup electric) but I couldn't get on with a sound which IMHO was definitely unbalanced almost tinny. I know some people like the bright sound of a Taylor. I owned a Collings OM2H at the same time; so maybe it was just down to an unfavourable comparison to a guitar designed to sound like a Martin from its best years.

My 000RS1 has a richlite fretboard and i have 2 guitars with ebony fretboards and i can't tell any difference between them. But i do like the richlite fretboard living a dry environment, as weather and humidity (or lack of) doesn't effect it. Enjoy that guitar!

I impulse bought my DRSGT. I took my Seagull to have the strings changed and cleaned up (once or twice a year i pay to have my strings changed, gives me a chance to hit the music store)

I was noodling around while they were working on the Seagull and left with the Martin. I was blown away. Especially when they told me the price.

Enjoy it in good health.

Congrats! There's no shame in owning both Martin and Taylor. Two different sounds from two excellent companies!

Looks like richlite will be the new ebony for fretboards. It looks good and other than not being wood, is there any advantage or disadvantage?
