Default Guild D40 1966 what fret wire for refret?

Hi all,

I have laying under my workbench some very nice Guild D40 that needs some love. Already have done a neck reset (which was quit hard but it worked) but it also needs a refret. I have measured the width of the orginal frets: 2.10 - 2.12mm (0.083 inch approx). Height varies but is unreliable due to levellings in the past. Any thoughts what fret wire I should order to do the job?

Best regards,
Alalush

Try this, they are selling out fast though. I'm glad I stocked up when I heard they were closing.

I recently refretted a '64 Guild D-40. The original wire was a close match for Stewmac's #0155, called a 'medium' size(width .080", crown height .050").

For re-frets and new instruments the only wire I would consider is EVO. LMII still has a couple of different sizes of EVO in stock.

Why EVO? It's beautiful, is easy to work with, and will most likely be the last wire the instrument will ever need.

Common garden variety 18% NS is available from StuMac and lots of other places, so no need to hurry to purchase NS from LMII.

+1 on the Evo recommendation. It's the only thing I will ever use on my guitars.

It's great stuff, I used it on my last 2 guitars. In between them, I found It's no longer made and I couldn't find any more of the size I use. Luckily, I had enough and 2 " left over when finished. Hopefully, someone will resume making it.

Evo is great stuff, too bad it's no longer in production. I have a few coils left that will last a decade or more. But sometimes, especially on vintage instruments, people like original.

True! The Guild D40 1966 is especially a players guitar. Thats why I don't mind doing a proper refret. It has dings allover but sounds awesome.
