Default Amp your classical

Hello all, my name is Tom and I am new here. Hope everyone is doing well. I am curious to find out which acoustic amp is most popular among classical players when you choose to use a microphone to amplify your sound. Right now I use a Schertler Jam 150 but have not heard any others.

I've used a microphone (Shure beta 87A) into a small powered mixer (Samson 200W) and a floor wedge monitor (Yamaha with 10" woofer and horn tweeter) angled forward. I think it works quite well.

Thanks, I use a Shure SM81 plugged into the 150, the mixer is built into the amp.

I'm doing this from memory because the computer is at the other end of the house from the music room. If I've messed something up, like misspelling a name or getting a model number wrong, please excuse my poor recall (LOL).

I play my classical guitar, but not classical music, into an AKG P170 condenser mic which is plugged into a Carvin AG200 amp.

I use the Schertler Unico, but not with a mic, usually. My flamenco has a let in saddle so that I can use a UST, and my UST is the Schertler BlueStick, an unusual system which superficially resembles a piezo, but actually involves a low impedance microphone system in an under saddle sound chamber. Sounds crazy, but works great IMO.

Does your Carvin mute the speaker when you plug in headphones?

Sorry tmblweed, but I don't own head phones so I've never tried it or asked about it. Just don't know.

I use the PA system with a direct box. Most important of all, I use polished strings. Acoustically it is not great but through an amp or a PA it sounds very good.

The microphone quality of sound is more a component of the quality of guitar; especially with a nylon string. I've attempted to mic but find to my liking decent on-board electronics for nylon better than straight acoustic. Piezo renders nylon pretty well and the on-boards can be much better suited to a good balance and tone out. I run mine direct to a Fishman SA220. But, I'm also very unconvinced that the audience can tell tit from tat, acoustically speaking; especially when what satisfies my ear isn't purely acoustic. I put my purist side out to pasture a long time ago.

Default Schertler all the way!

I use a Schertler David model. Honestly the best acoustic amp I have ever heard.
Case closed IMO.
