Taylor 214ce deluxe vs 314ce
Im about to purchase a new taylor. My budget is in the price range of a new 214ce deluxe or a used 314ce. I know I need to go play them both and I will before I make my decision im just trying to get a few opinions. My local GC has a new 214ce deluxe and a used 2013 314ce and a used 2007 314ce. I play mostly country music fingerstyle and strumming. Mostly just get together on the weekends and play with friends. What does everyone suggest I get between those 3?

I played a 214ce and a 314ce back to back and bought the 214... there's my 2 cents.

Thats kind of what im leaning towards. Ive heard ill get more sound out of the 214 and the 314 is better in a studio setting.

The 314ce is all solid wood construction, so I vote for that one (I own one).
Also, I would get the 2013 year model. (Better electronics).

Definitely just gonna have to play them. They are all within $100 of each other. I played an 814ce the other day and loved it but its way out of my price range.

The nut width may be a consideration, 214 1-11/16, 314 1-3/4.

Yeah - My advice is play them, and go with your gut; you'll know which one gets the edge on sound and feel for you. Both models are excellent choices - just different.

Nut width probably isn't going to be a big deal for you based on how you plan to use the guitar. I, personally prefer a 1 3/4 NW, but I own both, and can play either fine. If it's a toss up, I would go with the all solid 314ce.

I think its probably just gonna come down to which one I think sounds better.

The c will diminish the sound. Make sure you need it, because it's a sacrifice.

I don't think so... I think both of these guitars have the ES system.

Is the solid wood really that much better?

Hi
Recently bought my first Taylor. Spent nearly three hours playing 314, 414 etc and a 214ce Koa. Got the guy in the shop to play them as well. Came home with the 214 Koa. It just sounded and felt right to me. It also looked beautiful with the Koa finish, also got the ES electronics. Couldn't justify the extra £££ for the 3 or 4 series. Also tried a few Martins but they were not for me. Good luck |

I was with a friend last week when he was trying out the 214, I don't know too much about playing yet but I had a quick go and found it was really nice to play and was very impressed with the sound. Not heard the 314 though so I'm not much help for comparison purposes.
