word on the street..
Word on the street (NAMM) is that in a few months the ES2 will be available in guitars that are upgraded. But, at this time it's not. I'd wait if I went with Taylors system..the brand new version is much much much better. Or go with K&K (but YOU WILL NEED A PRE AMP!!!) or something by LR Baggs..

If I had an instrument that was of substantial value I would look at LR Baggs either Lyric or the the Anthem StagePro. The Anthem StagePro has the ability to balance between a microphone and pickup. You can set the balance anywhere you like to obtain the sound you'd prefer.

Another vote for the K&K Pure Mini. I sometimes play with no DI/preamp, but recently purchased the LR Baggs Venue DI, and I really like the sound I get with that tweaked my way.

Another vote for the LR Baggs Lyric. I had it installed in my Martin and absolutely love it.

The Venue DI from LR Baggs is a sweet add on.

I'd like to try another K&K Mini. Both the ones I had installed had the soundhole volume control and I'd heard from several (reliable or not?) sources that was not the way to go. The straight line out to the endpin receptacle was much preferred. It seems (again...if I was told correctly?) if the volume control wheel wasn't in the full open position it would diminish the signal in some way?

I have been to a fair amount of open mics, and by far the most consistant good acoustic sound has been from Taylors plugged in...soundman riding the board or no, whether the performer is a "good" player or no...guitar always sounds like a good acoustic guitar.
There is a lot of love for K & K here, and a friend has one in an Rtaylor that sounds wonderful, but I could not get the one installed in my Guild D55 to sound anything other than boomy, even with the big preamp...just me? my particular (store) install? Dunno. Subsequent D55 has the DTAR Multisource and that is great, at least for my purposes at home. Use very little of the mic mixed in and it sounds fabulous, with no "quack." Only thing better is an SM57...which maybe you could consider? A lot cheaper... |

Yeah, gigged with it twice now and I really like it.

Anybody made a direct comparison between KK Mini and JJB clone (which is half the price but advertised as an equivalent)? I just got the JJB, couldn't justify the price of KK for my GS Mini, but I won't have a chance to install it for another month, so can't try it yet. **** it, the worst thing is having a new piece of gear but not being able to try it
@llew since it's a passive volume control there will be some tone and volume loss, especially since piezos have fairly high output impedance. I wouldn't put anything in the path between piezo and the preamp.
