You can't pay too much. You can only pay too soon.

Ah heck John, I see that ONLY as an investment in the future...your future AND someone else's future. In fact, i'd say you (and others of your profession) are the enablers making the rest of us out here slobber for more guitars.

That's about as good as it gets. I've got several sets of Imbuia with the same figure. It's perfectly QS but has all kinds of swirls and such in it.

It's amazingness should alone justify the purchase! If that doesn't work you can keep the boards in the bedroom so you can look at them at night before sleep. And if that doesn't work out for the better half, you always have the sofa...

The end grain was hidden with paint and saw marks when I bought it and I was told it was quarter sawed at that time. I scraped the end clean and now am not so sure that it is quartered. Its so dark on the end that its hard to tell for sure, but it could be slab cut. Whatever the cut, its dense as ebony and pretty. I'm keeping it.

It turns out that my wife takes a hands on approach to my wood purchase. I have a decent resaw bandsaw, carbide toothed blade etc. and her idea is always for me to resaw into sets and sell some to support my habit. So for now I have her blessing. No couch. What happens down the road is trouble for a later date. im thinking i can get two spec guitars out of this plank and a measure of forgiveness.

Even so the tangential and radial movement of cocobolo is very close, it's a very stable wood.

I just succumbed to the wood gods tofay, but how could I tesist 18bf of figured sinker genuine mahogany??
