Martin CS-OM True North-16 Killer Koa LE
Elegant marquetry graces a classic Martin OM
"Wonderfully resonant, the CS-OM True North-16 is delightfully complex in its detailed tonality, and yet it has an expansive dynamic range beyond most ultra-responsive guitars." Read the full review |

For those who do not read beyond a Jr. high school level.
The guitar has a sound that echos in addition to the sound of the main notes from the strings. And it echos in more and in a more pleasing manner than many other guitars. I liked that. This guitar has many different sounds I can hear at the same time, more sounds than normal guitars. I liked that too. Each sound can be heard clearly while the other sounds are there. I liked that about this guitar too. Many guitars that resonate (echo) this well and have more than one or two sounds happening at the same time cannot be played very hard without getting all buzzy and icky sounding. This guitar is not like those guitars. How much good sound and echo comes out of a guitar when played softly and when played hard vs. icky sound is known as the guitars "dyanmics." This guitar can be played softer and harder than other guitars and not sound icky. Most guitars cannot be played softly and sound this good but also be played very hard and still sound this good. This is a good thing. In fact it sounds gorgeous - that means "very pretty." And I liked that best of all. I hope that was easier to understand. I edited that drawn out explanation for better clarity.
But it took that much to say what I had said the one sentence from the actual review. My original statement was not hyperbole, because it is no more enthusiastic than I genuinely feel about this particular instrument. And it is also entirely accurate, as it is exceptionally resonant and complex in terms of the harmonics without getting "muddy" but it also takes to an unreserved attack abnormally well for a guitar that responds so well to light, nuanced playing. I did find that delightful. I was unprepared for how much I liked this guitar, when I expected not to like it all that much. I was practically giggling at how impressive the voice is and how much resonant tone rises out it in response to various string manipulations and different kinds levels of attack. But I am more impressed with the dynamics that require no holding back, but do not need a lot of muscle to get the top going at the other end of the attack scale. |

Todd, I appreciate the time you put into these reviews. I for one could never begin to describe tone as well as you can. And I find your reviews and comments quite helpful-- a rare attribute in forums at times.

Even on my I-pad, it's got "that sound". Well played.
